Aldehyde resins

Obtained by reduction of phorone, b.p. 169 C. Very good solvent for aldehyde resins. [Pg.139]

Now warm 2-3 drops of acetaldehyde with 3-4 ml. of 10-20 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution, i.e., with excess of concentrated alkali solution. Observe the formation of a yellow aldehyde resin and the attendant peculiar odour. [Pg.331]

Phenolic resins were the first totally synthetic plastics invented. They were commercialized by 1910 [I]. Their history begins before the development of the structural theory of chemistry and even before Kekule had his famous dreams of snakes biting their tails. It commences with Gerhardt s 1853 observations of insoluble resin formation while dehydrating sodium salicylate [2]. These were followed by similar reports on the behavior of salicylic acid derivatives under a variety of reaction conditions by Schroder et al. (1869), Baeyer (1872), Velden (1877), Doebner (1896 and 1898), Speyer (1897) and Baekeland (1909-1912) [3-17]. Many of these early reports appear to involve the formation of phenolic polyesters rather than the phenol-aldehyde resins that we think of today. For... [Pg.869]

Phenolic-aldehydic resin that remains permanently thermoplastic unless methylene groups are added. [Pg.137]

Aldehydgriin, n. aldehyde green, aldehydhaltig, a. containing aldehyde. Aldehydharz, n. aldehyde resin, aldehydisch, a. aldehydic. [Pg.17]

A blend of a polyoxyalkylene-polysiloxane copolymer and an alkoxy-lated phenol-aldehyde resin is useful as a demulsifier [1457, 1458]. [Pg.334]

Silyl-based linker 23, cleaved by either basic (TBAF) or neutral (CsF) fluoridolysis to release carboxylic acids, alcohols, or amines, was prepared by treatment of a Grignard reagent to an aldehyde resin [28], To demonstrate the utility of this handle, /)-bromobenzoic acid was... [Pg.188]

Fivush AM, Willson TM. AMEBA An acid sensitive aldehyde resin for solid phase synthesis. Tetrahedron Lett 1997 38 7151-7154. [Pg.222]

Experiment 11.—A few drops of acetaldehyde, dissolved in about 2 c.c. of water, are heated in a test tube with 0-5 c.c. of dilute sodium hydroxide solution. A yellow colour develops and the acetaldehyde is converted by way of aldol into crotonaldehyde, which can be recognised in the boiling solution by its pungent odour. If acetaldehyde is heated with concentrated alkali solution yellow aldehyde resin is precipitated as a result of further condensation. [Pg.219]

This equation does not present a full picture of the chemical changes that occur, before Vignon and Bay [33], Silberrad and Fanner [34] and Berl and Delpy [35] identified the presence of aldehyde resins, oxalic acid and ammonia among the products of hydrolysis performed under similar conditions. [Pg.7]

This equation does not comprise the whole complex of simultaneous chemical reactions, which have already been discussed (p. 7). Later investigators (Vignon and Bay [53] Silberrad and Fanner [54], Berl and Delpy [55]) also found such products as aldehyde resins, oxalic add and ammonia. It is characteristic that from nitroglycerine hydrolysed in an alkaline medium no glycerine is recovered. Glycerine can however be obtained again when the hydrolysis is carried out in the presence... [Pg.46]

NaHC03 (0.2 g) was added to a suspension of chloromethylated polystyrene-1 % divinylbenzene copolymer (Merrifield resin, 0.5 g, 0.76 mmol/g) in DMSO (3 mL). After stirring for 7 h at 155 °C, the resin was washed successively with H20, MeOH, DMF, CH2C12, and Et20 and then dried under reduced pressure. To confirm the conversion of the chloromethyl resin into the aldehyde resin, two analyses were used FTIR analysis showing the typical carbonyl absorption at 1700.5 cm-1 and microanalysis showing the absence of any chlorine on the resin. The benzaldehyde resin (1.0g, 0.59mmol/g) was suspended in... [Pg.164]
