Difficulties in the morphological identification of parasites from other monogenean groups are expected because recent preservation methods favour molecular analyses. Alcohol preservation of larger monogeneans such as diplozoids increases the difficulty in species identification because the attachment clamps used for species discrimination of such preserved individuals are deeply embedded in parasite tissue and the accuracy of species identification is reduced.

When instilled topically in the eye, mercurial and alcoholic preservatives are rapidly diluted below the toxic threshold by tears. However, surfectant preservatives rapidly bind by intercalating into the plasma membrane and can increase corneal permeability before dilution can occur. The changed barrier property of the cornea can allow large hydrophilic molecules to penetrate the cornea fer more readily.

This result hardly looks worth reporting and, anyway, how do we know that equilibration or S l reactions aren t happening Well, here the mechanism must be Sn2 because the corresponding Z-allylic alcohol preserves its alkene configuration. If there were equilibration of any sort, the Z-alkene would give the -alkene because E and Z aUylic cations are not geometrically stable.

This new NIR method was an improvement over the NIR method introduced by Sherken nearly 10 years earlier. It took advantage of a meprobamate primary amine combination band at 1958 nm, not subject to the interference that the peak at 2915 nm suffered. The previous NIR method required removal of an alcohol preservative from the chloroform prior to analysis that interfered with the 2915 nm drug absorbance peak. The 1958 nm absorbance band, though weaker, was sufficient for calibration development.
