Alcohol, solid

A solution of flavoring materials extracted from flowers, roots, bark, fruit, etc. It may be alcoholic or non-alcoholic solid extract or fluid extract. These materials are frequently concentrated and standardized, e.g. Gentian extract. 

Various solid-supported perruthenate reagents have been designed for the oxidation of alcohols.Solid-supported NMO has also been used. A number of perruthenate systems employing O2 as the terminal oxidant have also been reported. The use of ionic liquids based upon substituted imidazolium cations as alternative solvent media for the selective oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones has also been investigated. ...

In the first test (ASTM D-2386, IP 16), a measured fuel sample is placed in a jacketed sample tube also holding a thermometer and a stirrer. The tube is placed in a vacuum flask containing the cooling medium. Various coolants used are acetone, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or isopropyl alcohol, solid carbon dioxide, or liquid nitrogen. As the sample cools, it is continuously stirred. The temperature at which the hydrocarbon crystals appear is recorded. The jacketed sample is removed from the coolant and allowed to warm, under continuous stirring. The temperature at which the crystals completely disappear is recorded. 

The N-Fmoc-protected p-nitrophenyl carbonate monomers are accessible from the corresponding (3-amino alcohols. Solid-phase synthesis of oligocarbamates is very efficient, with a reported coupling yield of 99% per step.

Liquid ammonia, Hquid hydrogen sulfide, and alcohol. Solid ammonium hydrosulfide has a high vapor pressure, 99.7 kPa (748 mm Hg) at 32.1°C, and subhmes easily at ordinary temperatures. Vapors from the hydrosulfide, composed of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, are very toxic.

For short-time storage, the sulfur(VI) fluoride is conveniently condensed in roomy pyrex traps that are cooled by an alcohol-solid carbon dioxide refrigerating bath J (or a similar combination). These traps may be, for example, about 20 to 25 cm. tall and 40 to 45 mm. wide with an inner (outlet) tube not less than 10 mm. wide leading down to within about 10 cm. from the bottom of the trap. Stopcocks are provided on inlet and outlet tubes.
