Alcan Chemicals

Alcan SF grades of alumina trihydrate are white crystalline powders with the chemical formula A1(0H)3, sometiMS expressed as A1203-3H20. [Pg.217]

Alcan SF grades absorb energy and release water vapor on heating, imparting flasM retardant and ssK ke suppressant properties to plastic and rubber products. [Pg.217]

Alcan SF E grades have identical physical properties to standard grades, but they have a much lower ionic lsg urity content. This permits improved perforstance in electrical applications. In particular the E grades are ideal as fillers in cable compounds where low electrolyte levels are critical. [Pg.217]

To achieve higher filler loadings, reduced cosqpound viscosity, or improved physical properties, Alcan SF and Alcan SF E products can be supplied surface treated. The treatments that are available include silanes, fatty acids and plasticizers. [Pg.217]

For automated powder handling systems and to achieve reduced mix cycle times, Alcan SF grades can be supplied with enhanced flow characteristics and in a number of bulk densities. [Pg.217]

Soybean oil was supplied by Procter and Gamble Inc., Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Methyl ester was made by the one-phase method employing a methanol/oil molar ratio of 27 1, tetrahydrofu as cosolvent and 1.0 wt.% sodium hydroxide based on the oil. The methyl ester accounted for 99,7% of the total ester present. The Alcan AA 200 activated alumina used was supplied by Alcan Chemicals, Brockville. Ontario, Canada. The catalyst s BET surface area is 270-290 /g, and its pore volume is 40 cmVg. The pore distribution is binodal, with 66% of pore volume in pores Jess than 30 radius and the rest in larger pores. Its bulk density is 0.75 g/cm... [Pg.1519]

Generally, ATH is considered to be thermally stable at around 180-200°C (360-400°F), and—with some reservations—until 216°C (420°F). Some data indicate the decomposition of ATH in the temperature range of 180-240°C (360-460°F). ATH is usually cream-colored, free-flowing powder with specific gravity of 2.42 g/cm loose bulk density of 70 Ib/ft (1.12 g/cm ), and the so-called packed bulk density of 55 Ib/ft (1.36 g/cm ). A typical commercial grade of ATH (for example, product of Alcan Chemicals, Cleveland, OH), contains up to 15% of powder with mesh size of 100 and larger particles, 67-87% with mesh size 200-200, and between 1 and 12% of mesh size 325. [Pg.473]

Arsenic is much more difficult to elute from alumina compared with adsorbed fluoride, which is eluted with 1 % NaOH. For this reason, higher concentrations, typically 1-4% (0.25-1 N) NaOH, are used for the base-regeneration step. Acid concentrations in the range of 0.1-0.5 N HCl or H2SO4 are typically used for the acid-neutralization step. These recommendations are based on field regeneration research completed in San Ysidro, NM, where it was found that the lower NaOH concentrations took proportionately longer to elute the arsenic (14). psiote The alumina supplier, Alcan Chemicals, recommends 0.5% NaOH (0.125 N) and... [Pg.229]

Alcan Chemicals make and supply Flamtard Z, which is a series of zinc borate materials with surface areas from 10 to 15 mVg. They are stable up to 290 °C and promote the formation of a char in the condensed phase. Flamtard Z grades have finer particle sizes than so-called standard zinc borates. [Pg.41]

Alcan Chemicals supply their Flamtard materials as alternatives to antimony trioxides for synergistic action in conjunction with various polymer systems. Flamtard H grades are used in halogenated polymer systems. They are thermally stable up to 200 °C and are particularly suitable for use with brominated polyesters, PVC and chlorinated PE. Flamtard S is thermally stable in all polymer systems. [Pg.48]

Sud-Chemie has developed a new series of flame retardants in collaboration with Alcan Chemicals. These are a combination of Alcan s inorganic Flamtard AN and Siid-Chemie s nanoclays that offer advantages for the cable sector such as a lower dosage and higher extension output compared to existing products. [Pg.59]
