AISC Steel Construction Manual

Because the skirt is an attachment to the pressure vessel, the selection of material is not governed by the ASME Code. Any material selected, however, should be compatible with the vessel material in terms of weldability. Strength for design is also not specified for support material by the ASME Code. Usually, in the absence of any other standard, the rules of the AISC Steel Construction Manual will be utilized. For elevated temperature design, the top three feet of skirt at the attachment point should be of the same material as the shell. [Pg.109]

As with all other types of supports, the ASME Code does not have specific design procedures for the design of saddles or the induced stresses in the vessel. While the ASME Code does have allowable maximum stresses for the stresses in the vessel shell, the code does not specifically address the support components themselves. Typically, the allowable stresses utilized are those as outlined in the AISC Steel Construction Manual. [Pg.110]

AISC specifications for the design fabrication and erection of structural steel for buildings shall govern the design of these steel structures (for AISC specifications, see the current edition of Steel Construction Manual of the American Institute of Steel Construction). Only Part I of the AISC manual, the portion commonly referred to as elastic design, shall be used in determining allowable unit stresses use of Part II, which is commonly referred to as plastic... [Pg.511]

AISC. 2005. Manual of Steel Construction, Metric, 13th ed. Chicago American Institute of Steel Construction. The main U.S. design manual for structural steel, widely used internationally, this edition combines the previously separated ASD and LFRD manuals. [Pg.175]

For design purposes, interaction equations are generally used to consider the combined effect of axial load and bending moment. The interaction equations suggested by the American Institute of Steel Construction s Load and Resistance Factor Design manual (AISC 2005) for two-dimensional structures are used for this illustrative example. They can be expressed as ... [Pg.3638]

Demonstrate that all structures and foundation elements satisfy the ultimate load requirements of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Code (ACI 349-85, "Code Requirements for Nuclear Safety-Related Concrete Structures", 1985) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Code (Manual of Steel Construction, 7th Edition, June 1973), when the design basis event (DBE) (corresponding to the RG 1.60 spectra anchored at 0.2 Gs) seismic loads are combined with the operating loads using a load factor of unity for all load components. [Pg.203]

The 1973 AISC Code (AISC Manual of Steel Construction. 7th Edition, June 1973) shall be used for support evaluation. [Pg.207]

Use EPRI data (EPRI NP-5228, Seismic Verification of Nuclear Plant Equipment Anchorage, Volume 1, Development of Anchorage Guidelines, May 1987) converted to the 2500 psi concrete for cast-in-place and grouted-in-place bolts, expansion, lead shield and lead cinched anchors. Use safety factors of 3 and 4 for non-shell and shell expansion anchors, respectively. Use 1973 AISC Code (Manual of Steel Construction, 7th Edition) requirements for steel connecting members and bolts. Use ACI Standard 349-85 (Code Requirements for Nuclear Safety Related Concrete Structures, 1985) for concrete evaluation. [Pg.207]
