Aim of this Book

In 1971 we published "Preparative Acetylenic Chemistry", a collection of procedures for various acetylenic compounds. An important aim of this book was to make acetylenes more accessible, so that barriers for starting research in this field could be lowered. [Pg.280]

There are at the present time many thousands of grades of commercial plastics materials offered for sale throughout the world. Only rarely are the properties of any two of these grades identical, for although the number of chemically distinct species (e.g. polyethylenes, polystyrenes) is limited, there are many variations within each group. Such variations can arise through differences in molecular structure, differences in physical form, the presence of impurities and also in the nature and amount of additives which may have been incorporated into the base polymer. One of the aims of this book is to show how the many different materials arise, to discuss their properties and to show how these properties can to a large extent be explained by consideration of the composition of a plastics material and in particular the molecular structure of the base polymer employed. [Pg.929]

In the early days of chemical modelling, people did indeed construct models from plastic atoms and bonds, a mler and a pair of scissors. The tendency now is to reach for the PC, and one aim of this book is to give you an insight into the bewitching acronyms that lie behind the keystrokes and mouse clicks of a sophisticated modelling package. [Pg.1]

Computer scientists may use this book to gain a clearer picture of how experimental scientists use Artificial Intelligence tools. Chemists, biochemists, physicists, and others in the experimental sciences who have data to analyze or simulations to run will find tools within these pages that may speed up their work or make it more effective. For both groups, the aim of this book is to encourage a broader application of these methods. [Pg.355]

It is the aim of this book to provide a useful introduction to the simplified form of basic governing equations and an illustration of a consistent method of applying these to the analysis of a variety of practical flow problems. Hopefully, the reader will use this as a starting point to delve more deeply into the limitless expanse of the world of fluid mechanics. [Pg.564]

Unfortunately, this virtuosity is sometimes viewed instead as a baffling complexity. One of the purposes of this book, therefore, is to show that there is an underlying order and organization that can serve as a logical framework and guide to this variety and to the interplay between properties and these structural features. The interplay is important because of the need to understand how structural modifications made to achieve some desired property can affect other properties at the same time. There are a great many structural factors that determine the nature of the mechanical behavior of such materials. One of the primary aims of this book is to... [Pg.1]

The aim of this book is to provide a guide for physicists, chemists and engineers who wish to approach the field of low-temperature physics. [Pg.14]

Palladium chemistry of heterocycles has its idiosyncrasies stemming from their different structural properties from the corresponding carbocyclic aryl compounds. Even activated chloroheterocycles are sufficiently reactive to undergo Pd-catalyzed reactions. As a consequence of a and y activation of heteroaryl halides, Pd-catalyzed chemistry may take place regioselectively at the activated positions, a phenomenon rarely seen in carbocyclic aryl halides. In addition, another salient peculiarity in palladium chemistry of heterocycles is the so-called heteroaryl Heck reaction . For instance, while intermolecular palladium-catalyzed arylations of carbocyclic arenes are rare, palladium-catalyzed arylations of azoles and many other heterocycles readily take place. Therefore, the principal aim of this book is to highlight important palladium-mediated reactions of heterocycles with emphasis on the unique characteristics of individual heterocycles. [Pg.416]

The aim of this book is to introduce various aspects of DFT and their connections to a chemical reactivity theory at a broadly accessible level. To this end, 34 chapters have been written by 65 eminent scientists from 13 different countries. Although the book is designed for readers with little or no prior knowledge of the subject, the breadth of the book and the expertise of the authors ensure that even experienced scientists will benefit from its contents. [Pg.603]

An overarching aim of this book is to develop a formal model which captures the role of both aggregate demand and money in the reproduction schema. [Pg.96]

The aim of this book is to give readers an overview of molecular fluorescence, allowing them to understand the fundamental phenomena and the basic techniques, which is a prerequisite for its practical use. The parameters that may affect the... [Pg.393]

Recovery ofthe soluble cattalysts presents the greatest difficulty in large scale appfications of homogeneous catalysis. In a way, aqueous biphasic catalysis itself provides a solution of this problem. It is not the aim of this book to discuss the various other methods of heterogenization of homogeneous catalysts. The only exception is the use of water-soluble... [Pg.73]

Unfortunately, in many medical or biomedical programmes, biochemical education has been reduced to the presentation of basic facts. It is the aim of this book to provide the link between these facts and medical practice to achieve a more complete biochemical education. Each topic is presented in one complete section or one chapter, which can be studies independently, unencumbered by extraneous material. Nonetheless, cross-references between topics are emphasised to help the student appreciate the common biochemical principles underlying health and disease. [Pg.556]

The aim of this book is to extensively portray the highly diverse attributes of mountain waters. With this aim, we hope to not only convey a sound scientific insight but also to demonstrate the paramount importance of mountain waters for future ecological and societal development. [Pg.288]

The aim of this book is to deal with all of these topics in a form that can easily be used for self-training and also for teaching in educational institntions and for in-house training. Teachers that intend to use this material to introduce the presented topics to their students or an audience are advised to study and digest the material before they use it in their presentations. The slides could then be customized to meet the needs of the teacher. It is important to note that the material provides the basis for presentations by third parties rather than exhaustive and fully comprehensive material. [Pg.343]

Progress in Theoretical Chemistry and Physics is made at different rates in these various research fields. The aim of this book series is to provide timely and in-depth coverage of selected topics and broad-ranging yet detailed analysis of contemporary theories and their applications. The series will be of primary interest to those whose research is directly concerned with the development and application of theoretical approaches in the chemical sciences. It will provide up-to-date reports on theoretical methods for the chemist, thermodynamician or spectroscopist, the atomic, molecular or cluster physicist, and the biochemist or molecular biologist who wish to employ techniques developed in theoretical, mathematical or computational chemistry in their research programmes. It is also intended to provide the graduate student with a readily accessible documentation on various branches of theoretical chemistry, physical chemistry and chemical physics. [Pg.429]
