Ageing process group

In a further aging process the =CHO species can be transformed by oxidation with adsorbed -OH groups to species of the type =CO. For this reason after these processes are completed, infrared spectroscopy shows the presence on the platinum surface of mainly the latter species. [Pg.177]

Extraction or rather leaching of colourants is the first and a very important step in the analytical procedure for the analysis of natural dyes. The chemical composition of extracts from historical materials depends on many factors, such as the source of natural dyes, the technological procedure of their production, storage conditions over the centuries, ageing processes and extraction conditions. The choice of the extraction method depends on the properties of the components and the matrix from which they are isolated, as well as on the mechanism of dyeing with the particular dyestuff. In this regard, they are usually divided into three groups direct, vat and mordant dyestuffs. [Pg.367]

Based on the substantive heterogeneity of the elderly population, a recent strategy groups the aging processes into three possible trajectories, thereby challenging the inevitability of functional impairment with aging911 ... [Pg.6]

Gas chromatography (GC)-MS coupled with multivariate statistical analysis proved valuable in verifying the authenticity of Echinacea species (Lienert et al, 1998). Similar root extracts could be grouped, based on the identified compounds from the GC-run, by principal component and cluster analysis. The correct grouping of the Echinacea species (i.e., purpurea, angustifolia, and pallida) was not influenced by the extraction method or by the aging process of the roots. [Pg.147]

In the case of organophosphate poisoning, the effectiveness of 2-PAM is dependent on its early administration. The phosphorylated AChE tends to convert to a form that cannot be reactivated by the oximes. This phenomenon is known as aging process. It involves the removal of an alkyl group from the dialkyl phosphorylated enzyme, producing an anionic phosphate moiety that is insensitive to oximes and other nucleophiles (Figure 7.17) (O Brien, 1976). [Pg.127]

The polar, ionic and even non-ionic head-group interactions of lipid membranes and other surfactants, (as indeed for many polymers and polyelectrolyte intra-molecular interactions) and the associated curvature at interfaces formed by such assemblies will be dependent on dissolved gas in quite complicated ways. Fluctuating nanometric sized cavities at such surfaces will be at extremely high pressure, (P = 2y/r, y= surface tension, and r the radius) resulting in formation of H and OH radicals. The immediate formation of Cl radicals and consequent damage to phospholipids offers em explanation of exercise-induced immunosuppression (through excess lactic acid CO2 production), perhaps a clue to the aging process. [Pg.136]
