Advanced specialty polymeric materials

In the beginning, spheronization had been primarily used in the pharmaceutical industry as a final forming method for formulations with high active loading. A spherical particle was needed for coating with a thin polymeric material for controlled release (see also Section 10.1). Today, spheronization is also applied for animal medicines, herbicides, enzymes, specialty fertilizers, advanced ceramics, and many more. 

Farong Huang is a member of the Chinese Society of Composites and Director of Key Laboratory for Specially Functional Polymeric Materials and Related Technology of the Ministry of Education at ECUST. His research interests focus on the design, synthesis and chemical modification of specialty polymers, the surface, interfaces and manufacture techniques of advanced polymeric composites, and the functional polymeric materials. He is an author or coauthor of more than 200 article as well as 4 books. He has contributed to more than 30 Chinese patents. 

The list of flexible polymeric roll materials suitable for atmospheric plasma processing is expansive. Mainstream resin types include polypropylene (homopolymers, heterophasic copolymers, and random copolymers), polyethylene (low, medium, and high density polyethylene resins), a family of specialty polyolefins which includes polybutene-1, advanced polypropylene resins from in-reactor alloying processes and polypropylene compounds, and fiuoropolymers. Inorganic and ORGANOMETALUC polymers were the subject of a second international symposium held last year. Seven years have passed since the first symposium and six years since publication of ACS Symposium Series, Volume 360, on this subject. In this period of time, good progress has been made on a number of research fi onts, and work in this area remains at the firontier of materials science. The symposium was held to update this rapidly expanding field this volxnne reviews recent advances in several areas, including new polymerization processes, new polymer systems, and nmnerous specialty appUcations.
