Advanced ChemTech Synthesizers

Advanced ChemTech was the first company to release a combinatorial library synthesizer. The company offers several instruments for. combinatorial chemistry. All fully automated models are based on a robotic system. 

The Model 440 Multiple Organic Synthesizer is smaller than the 496 MOS (60 cm W x 64 cm D X 90 cm H 24 x 25 x 36 in), but otherwise is very similar to that instrument. The major difference is the reaction block, which has only 40 larger reaction vessels, the volume of each being 8 mL. 

The 384 High Throughput Synthesizer is essentially a large version of the 496 model. It is designed for parallel synthesis of 384 compounds, and has four reaction blocks with 96 reaction vessels in each. Most of the other parameters are identical to those of the 496 MOS.

An OMNI Fit (1.Ox 10.0cm) reaction column was used. Alternatively, this can be carried out using either the Quest 210 semiautomated synthesizer or the Advanced ChemTech peptide synthesizer. 

In the laboratory we have several automatic and semiautomatic robotic apparatus including the IRORI Nanokan optical encoding system for split- and pool-synthesis (34) and synthesizers from Advanced ChemTech and the MiniBlock from Mettler, Toledo, OFI.

In 1989, Advanced ChemTech (ACT) introduced the Model 350 Simultaneous Multiple Peptide Synthesizer capable of assembling up to 96 peptides at scales from 5 to 50 pmol using the Fmoc method. Two different sized reaction vessels are available 600 pL and 1.5 mL. The first Model 350 was originally designed similar to the SMPS 350 by Zinsser, however during the next several years, ACT added additional features, such as an orbital shaker for resin agitation to differentiate the product. ...

Unlike solid-phase organic synthesizers, automated synthesizers for peptide synthesis are commercially available (Advanced ChemTech, Protein Technologies, to name just two old players in this field). The automated solid-phase synthesis of peptides was reviewed in 2002,and then again with aspects of peptidomimetic development.
