Wang resin was purchased from Advanced ChemTech (1% DVB, 0.70mmol/g substitution, 100-200 mash, Cat. SA5009). Anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (THF), A/A-dimcthyl-formamide (DMF), methanol, dichloromethane, pyridine, 1,1 -carbonyldiimidazole (CDI), piperazine, homopiperazine, trans-1,4-diaminocyclohexane, 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP), succinic anhydride, diglycolic anhydride, 3-methyl-glutaric anhydride, 2-aminophenol, 2-amino-p-cresol, 2-amino-4-tert-butyl phenol, /V-methylmorpholine (NMM), triphenylphosphine, diethyl azodicarboxylate (DEAD), and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) were purchased from Aldrich Chemical Company, Inc. and used without further purification. PyBOP was purchased from Novabiochem. 

An OMNI Fit (1.Ox 10.0cm) reaction column was used. Alternatively, this can be carried out using either the Quest 210 semiautomated synthesizer or the Advanced ChemTech peptide synthesizer. 

The checkers purchased Cbz-L-Serine from Nova Biochem while the submitters purchased this from Advanced Chemtech in both cases the material was used without further purification.

Chlorotrityl chloride resin was obtained from CBL (Patras). Fmoc-amino acids and their derivatives were purchased either from Advanced Chemtech, Nova-Biochem, SNPE or Bachem (Switzerland). Solvents, AcOH, TFA and TFE were of analytical grade, purchased either from Merck or Fluka and used without further purification. TLC was performed on a precoated silica gel 60 F254 (Merck) aluminium plates employing the following solvent systems chloro-form/methanol/acetic acid (90 12 2) and (85 10 5), toluene/methanol/acetic acid (70 30 15) and (90 10 10).
