In literature the existing experimental data base of supercritical adsorption equilibria is limited and most of the data have been modelled with one of three common adsorption isotherm models - the Langmuir, the Freundlich and the Toth. The models define adsorption isotherms with a similar shape and they have 2 or 3 adjustable parameters which allow an accurate correlation. [Pg.687]

The TEOM is a unique technique that is suitable for simultaneous measurements of adsorption, reaction, and coke formation. The adsorption isotherms of 12DCP on activated carbon and catalysts have been accurately determined. The isotherm data can be described by the Toth model. In this theory of Ideal Adsorption Solution, adsorption isotherm equation for pure components can take any form which fits the data best (Richter et al., 1989). Two isotherms commonly used are Toth and Unilan equations (Chapter 3), although Toth equation is the preferable equation from the computational point of view because it usually gives faster convergence than the Unilan equation does. When DR equation is used to describe pure component data, the application of the LAST in this case has some special features (Richter et al., 1989) and it was used by Lavanchy et al. The Toth model describes the adsorption isotherms of pure C2H4 (component 1) and CH4 (component 2) as well as those for their binary mixtures on Nuxit charcoal fairly well [14,30], The multicomponent Toth model was used to calculate the binary gas isosteric heats of adsorption for a C2H4-CH4 mixture as functions of C2H4 gas-phase mole fraction (j i) at a total as pressure of 99.2 kPa and at a temperature of 293 K [14]. Figure 10 show the results, qc,Hi decreases as the mole fraction of that component in the gas phase increases. ch4 increases as the mole fraction of that component in the gas phase increases.
