Holding mechanism

When testing finished wire-rope tensile test specimens to their breaking strength, suitable sockets shall be attached by the correct method. The length of test specimen shall not be less than 3 ft (0.91 m) between sockets for wire ropes up to 1-in. (25.4 mm) diameter and not less than 5 ft (1.52 m) between sockets for wire ropes 1 -J-in. (28.6 mm) to 3-in. (77 mm) diameter. On wire ropes larger than 3 in. (77 mm), the clear length of the test specimen shall be at least 20 times the rope diameter. The test shall be valid if failure occurs 2 in. (50.8 mm) from the sockets or holding mechanism. [Pg.566]

Safety shutoff valve — A normally closed (closed when de-energized) valve installed in the piping that closes automatically to shut off the fuel or atmosphere gas in the event of abnormal conditions, or during shutdown. The valve can be opened either manually or by a motor-operator, but only after the solenoid coil or other holding mechanism is energized. [Pg.287]

When the boom is being held in a fixed position, dogs, pawls, or other positive holding mechanisms on the boom hoist must be engaged. [Pg.1289]

If the picture on the front of the book was truly representative of a game, there d be two challenges. The first is, how can you, the man, actually hold the woman s hand We don t, as in Ico, want to create a hand-holding mechanic, for there wouldn t be enough occasions in the game to use it. Therefore, we d need some kind of pick-things-up mechanic that could be adapted to different uses, and this would be just one of them. [Pg.517]

Whilst in the HCl form it is inactive towards ozone, and therefore this sequence of reactions acts as a holding mechanism, delaying the release of Cl, rather than necessarily actually permanently removing it from the mix. It is thought that as much as 70 % of stratospheric Cl is held in this form. Other reservoir processes trap CIO, which temporarily forms HOCl and CIONO2, in the reactions ... [Pg.230]

The molecular mechanics force helds available are AMBER95 and CFIARMM. The molecular mechanics and dynamics portion of the code is capable of performing very sophisticated calculations. This is implemented through a large number of data hies used to hold different types of information along with keywords to create, use, process, and preprocess this information. This results in having a very hexible program, but it makes the input for simple calculations unnecessarily complex. QM/MM minimization and dynamics calculations are also possible. [Pg.330]

Enediynes hold substantial promise as anti cancer drugs because of their potency and selectivity Not only do they inhibit cell growth they have a greater tendency to kill cancer cells than they do normal cells The mechanism by which enediynes act involves novel chemistry unique to the C C—C=C—C C unit which leads to a species that cleaves DNA and halts tumor growth... [Pg.368]

The housing physically holds the valve pieces together by means of a mechanical lock (crimp) and fits into the pedestal of the mounting cup. It is made from any of a number of common thermoplastics and contains the metering orifices for both the Hquid and vapor phases of the effluent. Many... [Pg.349]

DropletHea.tup, A relation for the time required for droplet heatup, T can be derived based on the assumption that forced convection is the primary heat-transfer mechanism, and that the Ran2-MarshaH equation for heat transfer to submerged spheres holds (34). The result is... [Pg.55]

The debate as to which mechanism controls particle nucleation continues. There is strong evidence the HUFT and coagulation theories hold tme for the more water-soluble monomers. What remains at issue are the relative rates of micellar entry, homogeneous particle nucleation, and coagulative nucleation when surfactant is present at concentrations above its CMC. It is reasonable to assume each mechanism plays a role, depending on the nature and conditions of the polymerization (26). [Pg.24]

Other routes to reachieving filament separation have been described and rely on mechanical or aerodynamic forces to affect separation. Figure 4 illustrates one method which utilizes a rotating deflector plane to force the filaments apart while depositing the opened filaments ia overlapping loops (25). After the splayed filaments fall to the deposition surface or forming screen, a suction from below the disposition surface holds the fiber mass in place. [Pg.165]
