Adhesives for textile fibre bonding

Adhesives for textile fibre bonding are discussed elsewhere a more general article considers Adhesives in the textile industry. [Pg.36]

This article gives a survey of the types of adhesive used more specialized aspects are covered in Adhesives for textile fibre bonding and Adhesives in textile coating, laminating and printing. [Pg.38]

When adhesively bonding leather, it is important to roughen the surface to raise the fibres of the corium and for the adhesive to surround and embed them. Similarly, in the adhesion between textiles and rubber (of great importance in the construction of motor vehicle tyres) the extent of embedding of fibres of the staple yarn is the governing factor in achieving strong bonds. In both cases penetration of adhesive into the structure is no substitute for penetration of the fibres into the adhesive. [Pg.137]

Woollen felt is probably the oldest form of textile, and for many years was the only practical nonwoven fabric, produced by the combined action of moisture and heat on carded wool fibres. The development first of a strong adhesive-bonded felt, and then of the multiplicity of forms of dry-laid synthetic fibres, has transformed the spectrum of nonwoven media, both in format and basic material. [Pg.57]
