Trophoblastic expression was evaluated for hCG and its derivatives, leutenizing hormone (EH, LH 3), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH, FSH 3), placental lactogen (PL), and growth hormone (GH-227) in 40 neuroendocrine lung neoplasms, 29 primary pulmonary adenocarcinomas, 20 squamous cell carcinomas, and 1 adenosquamous carcinoma.Trophoblastic hormone immunoreactivity was found in 28 of 90 (31%) of all lung carcinomas but primarily in typical carcinoids. 

In the pancreas, squamous cells can be encountered in injured ductal epithelium as a result of a metaplastic process. The same metaplastic phenomenon also seems to take place focally in some examples of DA. Squamous ceU carcinoma is the most common subtype (60%-70%) with adenocarcinoma representing 20%-25%. The diagnosis of adenocarcinoma carries a worse prognosis when the disease has spread beyond the cervix. The other epitheUal tumors include mixed squamous cell and adenocarcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, which accounts for 5%-25% of carcinomas in some series. 

Inhalation exposure to acetaldehyde has produced nasal tumors in rats and laryngeal tumors in hamsters. Male and female rats were exposed to acetaldehyde 6hday , 5 day week for 28 months at concentrations of 0, 750, 1500, or 3000 ppm. A concentration-related incidence of squamous cell carcinomas of the respiratory epithelium was observed in both male and female rats. A statistically significant number of adenocarcinomas occurred in the olfactory epithelium of both sexes of rats exposed at all three acetaldehyde concentrations. Male and female hamsters were exposed to acetaldehyde 7hday, 5 day week at concentrations gradually reduced from 2500 to 1650 ppm for 52 weeks. Both sexes of acetaldehyde-exposed hamsters developed laryngeal tumors consisting of squamous cell carcinomas and adenosquamous cell carcinomas.
