Active Phase-Tracking

Ideally, there is no phase shift between the reference and the diffracted beam (0=0), and, since TDFRS is completely nondestructive without dye bleaching, the signal can be accumulated over almost arbitrary times. In order to maximize the heterodyne signal amplitude, some means for phase adjustment and stabilization are needed. Without such active phase-tracking, 0 would have some arbitrary value and would slowly drift away due to the almost unavoidable slow thermal drift of the whole setup. 

An elegant phase-tracking and stabilization procedure has been developed, which utilizes the fast signal contribution from the heat mode with a relaxation time of the order of 10 /as, which is always present in TDFRS measurements [34].

It is then instructive to use spectroscopic tools to follow the structural evolution of the active phase. In this manner it may be possible to determine the optimum conditions for the synthesis of the precise active phase that is desired, and therefore it maybe possible to control these conditions to achieve the desired phase. XAFS spectroscopy is a powerful tool that can be used to track the structural transformation of one species to another during the evolution of the active phase. 

A plan is more than a list of goals, a bar chart, or a schedule of activities. For the business plan to be effective it needs to define how the measures it covers are to be achieved and the resources to achieve them obtained. There may well be supplementary plans for this purpose. The plan or plans also need to define who is to be responsible for achieving the goals and implementing the plans. Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy is an emerging technology. By tuning a pump laser and a Stokes laser to a Raman-active molecular vibration, molecular selectivity and faster measurement speed can be obtained. This approach has been used to track the phase segregation, crystallisation and dissolution of paclitaxel from biocompatible excipients and films providing kinetic data not achievable through standard Raman microscopy methods [56].

During 2004, two Phase 1 studies and a Phase l/It study of M3 were completed. In the Phase 1 studies, the drug was well tolerated and showed good anti-HIV levels in the body.
