Glacial acetic acids

BP Glacial acetic acid JP Glacial acetic acid PhEur Acidum aceticum glaciale USP Glacial acetic acid [Pg.6]

E260 ethanoic acid ethylic acid methane carboxylic acid vinegar acid. [Pg.6]

Glacial and diluted acetic acid solutions are widely used as acidifying agents in a variety of pharmaceutical formulations and food preparations. Acetic acid is used in pharmaceutical products as a buffer system when combined with an acetate salt such as sodium acetate. Acetic acid is also claimed to have some antibacterial and antifungal properties. [Pg.6]

Solubility miscible with ethanol, ether, glycerin, water, and other fixed and volatile oils. [Pg.6]

Acetic acid should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. [Pg.6]

Water Less than 0.50% by Infrared spectroscopy Ultraviolet absorbance  [Pg.908]

Refractive Index 1.3586 0.0003 at 20 C Bolling range 56-57 C Residue Less than one mg/1 Purity Greater than 99.9% by gc analysis [Pg.908]

Electron capture gc No residue peaks greater than 10 ng/1 as heptachlor epoxide. [Pg.908]

To prepare pure acetic acid (glacial acetic acid), the crude aqueous product is converted into the sodium salt, the latter dehydrated by fusionf and then heated with concentrated sulphuric acid anhydrous acetic acid, b.p. 118°, distils over. Only the preparation of aqueous acetic acid and of crystalline copper acetate is described below. [Pg.74]

Benzoic acid [65-85-0] M 122.1, m 122.6-123.1, pK 4.12. For use as a volumetric standard, analytical reagent grade benzoic acid should be carefully fused to ca 130 (to dry it) in a platinum crucible, and then powdered in an agate mortar. Benzoic acid has been crystd from boiling water (charcoal), aq acetic acid, glacial acetic acid, C6H6, aq EtOH, pet ether (b 60-80 ), and from EtOH soln by adding water. It is readily purified by fractional crystn from its melt and by sublimation in a vacuum at 80. ... [Pg.122]

They are usually best obtained by dissolving the aldehyde in alcohol, and adding excess of an equimolecular mixture of semi-carbazide hydrochloride, and acetate of sodium. The mixture is allowed to stand for some time and the ssmi-carbazone then precipitated by the addition of water. Some semi-carbazones are more easily prepared by substituting free acetic acid (glacial) for the acetate of sodium. Semi-carbazones are beat recrystallis from hot methyl alcohol. [Pg.179]

Aromatic amine (20 g), acetic acid anhydride (20 mL), acetic acid (glacial, 20 mL), and zinc powder (0.1 g) were mixed and refluxed. After 30 min the solution was poured into 500 mL of ice water and the precipitate was filtered and dried to obtain the acetanilide. [Pg.545]
