Accessioning with computerized database

Samples should be accessioned into a computerized database, consistent with federal regulations (21CFR). Most rules concerning a compliant database have to do with whether the structure provides for an audit trail, so that anyone who has viewed or written to the database can be traced. Handwritten accessioning procedures are strongly encouraged as well. 

With the advent of large computerized databases It Is now possible for sensitive personal information to be stored without the individual s knowledge and accessed by, say, a prospective employer, credit card company or Insurance company in order to assess somebody s suitability for employment, credit or insurance. 

Computerizing the information on zeolite catalysts have been attempted successfully and different databases concentrate on specific properties[25-28]. The information in several databases are shown in Table 3. Our approach[29] involves retrieval of information from the database and additionally an expert system approach is followed to derive a set of conditions to achieve one s goal in the synthesis of zeolites. The structure of the system is designed to perform three salient fiinctions as shown in Fig. 7. The first function is to provide access to a large database of physico-chemical properties and crystallographic information of all reported zeolite[30]. The second function provides for the synthesis of zeolites - the most logical route for the synthesis of a desired zeolite structure is provided. The third function is a graphic tool application to simulate X-ray powder diffraction patterns for zeolite phases with different amount and nature of purity. 

To be effective, MRPII has to be an integrated computerized system and should be on-line and accessible to aU interested parties. It follows therefore that data has to be kept up to date on the system. For example, if engineering changes are made to the design of a product the MRPII database has to be updated otherwise the bill of materials for procurement purposes will not be in line with the new design. It is clear that MRPII cannot be effective unless a single set of numbers is used by all functions (i.e. marketing/sales, finance. 

Each reference is indexed so that retrieval can be by title of the article or publication by authors, both personal and corporate and by journal title. Publisher, data publication and pagination are also given. Where the title is inadequate, extra keywords are added to describe the document more fully. All journal articles have an abstract of up to 100 words. One of the advantages of using computerized information services is that, for an individual with a particular subject interest, a profile or key words can be logged into the computer, and regular access to the relevant database, using these keywords or profile, will produce a printout of any new items on that particular subject.
