Acceptability and Tolerance Responses. The results of statistical analyses of the blended food questionnaire responses are presented in Table V. In this table, testing by analysis of variance of blend type difference is designated by BT, of clinic number difference by CN, and of the dependence of differences between... [Pg.150]

Manipulation of physical and material properties through PHA composition and molecular properties, as well as blending, is standard practice. Metabolix s Mirel P3001/F3002 has suitable meehanieal flexibility, a relatively high melt strength and is acceptable for food contact (Figure 8.4). [Pg.206]

During the past decade, biotechnology has been extensively applied to oilseed crops often to modify the fatty acid profiles of the oil. However, it has not always been possible to control overall processing economics successfully. Nowadays, modem recipe engineering research in most countries allows fully acceptable blends with proper fatty acid composition to be generated, thus making it unnecessary to confine consumption to those pure oils that have limited acceptability due to reasons of palatability, local food habits or composition of fatty acids. [Pg.8]

Despite the wealth of information available on the biochemistry, genetics, and nutritional values of plant proteins, people eat foods that look, smell, and taste good not because of nutritional importance. Thus, new blended plant foods or protein-supplemented snacks or food products will have to look and taste like the traditional items if they are to gain sufficient acceptance to become commercially feasible. Absolute food... [Pg.10]

Cyclamates are the salts of the cyclohexylsulfamic acid. In 1969 cyclamates were blamed for being carcinogenic following a study in which an increase in bladder tumours was observed in a study on a cyclamate-saccharin blend. Following publication of the study the FDA and a number of other health authorities banned cyclamate from use in foods and beverages. On the basis of additional studies it has meanwhile been accepted that cyclamate is not carcinogenic. [Pg.237]

There is no universally good adhesive for food constituents. Proteins that are highly cohesive may not blend well with certain other ingredients. It is necessary to examine the available proteins for optimum properties and to select the most satisfactory ingredient combinations. A number of instruments are available for measurements of textural properties of food ingredients or products, but the final criteria for acceptable performance must be taste-panel evaluations. [Pg.128]

Food and Drug Administration Approach. The FDA has proposed the following acceptance criteria for blend uniformity testing [6] ... [Pg.713]

Curcumin, or curcuminoids concentrate, for use as a food colour, is not a regular article of commerce because the cheaper turmeric oleoresin has been found suitable for most current uses. Curcumin is included in the list of colours with a restricted use because it has been allotted a low ADI (acceptable daily intake) of 0-1 mg/kg body weight/day. Curcumin gives a bright yellow colour even at doses of 5-200 ppm. A variety of blends are available to suit the colour of the product (Henry, 1998). [Pg.100]

I Dynamic Headspace Furaneol Isolation Using Excess Na2S04.. The most difficult 3 volatiles to isolate from aqueous foods include the sugar related compounds such as (2 Furaneol and Maltol. Until recently the accepted meAod to isolate these compoimds for analysis was to extract the blended, filtered product directly with ether (e.g. in a continuous liquid-liquid extractor). This often required another step to separate volatiles from non-volatiles before GC injection. [Pg.245]

Other biodegradable polymeric blend materials acceptable to produce destroy-able food packaging consists of either blends of starch as biodegradable polymer and nondegradable polymers as PE and PAA [48], or blends of starch and... [Pg.303]
