Absorption low-temperature

Compared with aliphatic nylons it also shows greater rigidity and hardness, lower water absorption, low temperature coefficient of expansion, good resistance to heat and moisture, better electrical insulation properties, particularly under hot and damp condition, and of course transparency. [Pg.510]

Condensable hydrocarbon components are usually removed from gas to avoid liquid drop out in pipelines, or to recover valuable natural gas liquids where there is no facility for gas export. Cooling to ambient conditions can be achieved by air or water heat exchange, or to sub zero temperatures by gas expansion or refrigeration. Many other processes such as compression and absorption also work more efficiently at low temperatures. [Pg.251]

The outer packaging must protect the tea from light and moisture absorption. Polypropylene or coated ceUophane outer wraps for paper board tea packages provide a barrier to loss of tea aroma and retard permeation of oxygen and foreign flavors. Low temperature improves storage stabiHty. Properly packaged and stored teas retain acceptable flavor for about a year. [Pg.372]

Surface Area. The most important features influencing the performance of carbon blacks are aggregate size and surface area. Surface area is measured by gas- and Hquid-phase adsorption techniques, and depends on the amount of adsorbate required to form a surface monolayer. If the area occupied by a single-adsorbate molecule is known, a simple calculation will yield the surface area. A low temperature nitrogen absorption method, based on the original method of Bmnauer, Emmett, and Teller (BET) (30), has been adopted by ASTM as standard method D3037-86 (2). [Pg.548]

Of the four commercial processes for the purification of carbon monoxide two processes are based on the absorption of carbon monoxide by salt solutions, the third uses either low temperature condensation or fractionation, and the fourth method utilizes the adsorption of carbon monoxide on a soHd adsorbent material. AH four processes use similar techniques to remove minor impurities. Particulates are removed in cyclones or by scmbbing. Scmbbing also removes any tars or heavy hydrocarbon fractions. Acid gases are removed by absorption in monoethanolamine, hot potassium carbonate, or by other patented removal processes. The purified gas stream is then sent to a carbon monoxide recovery section for final purification and by-product recovery. [Pg.53]

Plasticizers. Plasticizers are materials that soften and flexibilize inherently rigid, and even britde polymers. Organic esters are widely used as plasticizers in polymers (97,98). These esters include the benzoats, phthalates, terephthalates, and trimeUitates, and aUphatic dibasic acid esters. Eor example, triethylene glycol bis(2-ethylbutyrate) [95-08-9] is a plasticizer for poly(vinyl butyral) [63148-65-2] which is used in laminated safety glass (see Vinyl POLYMERS, poly(vinyl acetals)). Di(2-ethyUiexyl)phthalate [117-81-7] (DOP) is a preeminent plasticizer. Variation of acid and/or alcohol component(s) modifies the efficacy of the resultant ester as a plasticizer. In phthalate plasticizers, molecular sizes of the alcohol moiety can be varied from methyl to tridecyl to control permanence, compatibiUty, and efficiency branched (eg, 2-ethylhexyl, isodecyl) for rapid absorption and fusion linear (C6—Cll) for low temperature flexibiUty and low volatility and aromatic (benzyl) for solvating. Terephthalates are recognized for their migration resistance, and trimeUitates for their low volatility in plasticizer appHcations. [Pg.396]

The effect of radiation-source temperature on the low-temperature absorptivity of a number of additional materials is presented in Fig. 5-12. It will be noted that polished aluminum (cui ve 15) and anodized (surface-oxidized) aluminum (cui ve 13), representative of metals and nonmetals respectively, respond oppositely to a change in the temperature of the radiation source. The absorptance of surfaces for solar... [Pg.572]

Low-temperature tanks may be installed underground to take advantage of the insulating value of the earth. Frozen-earth storage is also used. The frozen earth forms the tank. Some installations using this technique have been unsuccessful because of excessive heat absorption. [Pg.1020]

If a relatively sharp separation is required between two components of adjacent volatihty, but either an undesirably low temperature is required to produce reflux at the column-operating pressure or an undesirably high temperature is required to produce boil-up, then refluxed stripping as shown in Fig. I3-7g or reboiled absorption... [Pg.1244]

Polyisobutylene has a similar chemical backbone to butyl rubber, but does not contain double carbon-carbon bonds (only terminal unsaturation). Many of its characteristics are similar to butyl rubber (ageing and chemical resistance, low water absorption, low permeability). The polymers of the isobutylene family have very little tendency to crystallize. Their strength is reached by cross-linking instead of crystallization. The amorphous structure of these polymers is responsible for their flexibility, permanent tack and resistance to shock. Because the glass transition temperature is low (about —60°C), flexibility is maintained even at temperatures well below ambient temperature. [Pg.584]
