Absorbtion coefficient

Calculated with the absorbtivity coefficients from Table 41.4. [Pg.601]

The advantages of the difference Laue technique is that wavelength and position dependent corrections are not needed except in the case of significant change in the mass absorbtion coefficient during the course of the experiment (eg. the binding of heavy atoms). A modified difference Laue method was exploited by Faber et al. (1987) in the determination of the positions of the heavy atom binding sites in crystals of xylose isomerase. [Pg.49]

The best imbedding liquid was found to be castor oil for measurements in water. Castor oil has an acoustic impedance close to that of water (so that the percentage of incident sound energy reflected at the interface is small) and a rather high absorbtion coefficient. The probe is placed in such way that the direction of propagation of the sound wave is perpendicular to the thermocouple wires. The response of the probe follows the pattern described above (see Figure 7). According to the authors, this type of probe is extremely useful because (i) it is small in size, (ii) it has a low input electrical impedance, and (iii) it is not sensitive to stray radio frequency fields. [Pg.18]

The concentrations of all oligonucleotide stock solutions are determined by their UV absorbance. Values of molar absorbtivity coefficients for the various bases at neutral pH are taken from CRC Press Handbook of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. For heteropolymers, concentrations are determined at 260 nm by summing the absorbtivity coefficients for all bases in the oligomer and using Beers Law, Homopolymers are similarly quantitated at their respective wavelength of maximum absorbance. [Pg.193]

In the previous section, we discussed astrophysical observations of UV spectra of H2. The corresponding absorbtion bands are very strong and can be observed even for objects with very high redshifts. On the other hand, as we have seen, the sensitivity coefficients Ki in Equation 16.13 are rather small. This is because of the smallness of the rovibrational energy compared with the total transition energy. Therefore, it is expedient to study the microwave spectra of molecules, where the relative frequency changes due to a possible variation of the constants are larger. [Pg.604]

A = absorbance, expressed as Iq/I Iq = the intensity of the incident light I = the intensity of the light transmitted through the sample 8 = molar absorbtivity, or the extinction coefficient (a constant characteristic of the specific molecule being observed) values for conjugated dienes typically range from 10,000 to 25,000 c = concentration (mol/L)... [Pg.596]

As stated above, typically methods for determining a protein s absorbtivity involve the use of model compound extinction coefficients, and assuming those... [Pg.311]

The diffusion cell may be combined in the same manner as in the case of the ultracentrifuge with Schlieren optics, interference optics, and absorbtion optics. In most cases, the mass average and the area average of the diffusion coefficient are determined. They can be calculated with the help of Eqs. (A14) and (A19) ... [Pg.1564]

In Figure 1 the difference in the absorbtion due to the undissociated and dissociated groups is shown to be a linear function of neutralization no effects connected with site binding can be found though it is well known from thermodynamic methods that at higher charge densities serious depression of the activity coefficients occurs [6]. [Pg.343]
