Yasmin (Drospirenone/Elhinyleslradiol). Schering Health Care Ltd UK Summary of product characteristics, August 2006. [Pg.977]

Cilest contains ethinylestradiol and norgestimate whereas Yasmin contains ethinylestradiol in combination with drospirenone. Both are combined oral contraceptives available as tablets, which have to be taken once daily for 21 days. Both are contraindicated in patients with venous thromboembolic diseases. [Pg.31]

Hyperkalemia Yasmin contains the progestin drospirenone that has antimineralocorticoid activity, including the potential for hyperkalemia in high-risk patients, comparable to a 25 mg dose of spironolactone. Yasmin should not be used in patients with conditions that predispose to hyperkalemia. Women receiving daily, long-term treatment for chronic conditions or diseases with medications that may increase serum potassium should have their serum potassium level checked during the first treatment cycle. [Pg.214]

In November 2000, drospirenone in combination with ethinylestradiol was introduced by Schering AG to the drug market in Germany as a contraceptive pill under the tradename Yasmin . Today, it is available almost worldwide, and is considered to be the most successful oral contraceptive of the past decade. [Pg.398]

Due to the unique biological similarity of drospirenone (e.g., mild anti-aldosterone and anti-androgenic activity) to the natural progesterone, Yasmin has important advantages over the known oral contraceptives [14]. For example, the use of Yasmin does not initially cause any increase in body weight, and it is also effective in treating mild to moderate acne. Likewise, menstrual cycle control is excellent. [Pg.398]
