Selenium was first identified by Berzelius in 1817. The element is found associated with volcanic activity, as for example in cavities of Vesuvian lavas and in the volcanic tuff of Wyoming (about 150 parts per million). [Pg.1464]

Hite (28) has described a mechanism for concentrating phosphorus and other elements and introducing them into the Phosphoria sea by reflux circulation from the adjacent hypersaline lagoon in eastern Wyoming. This mechanism may have been an... [Pg.218]

Minerals. Few analyses of the mineral contents are available despite the abundance of elemental analyses expressed as oxides of high temperature ashes (71,72). Sprunk and O Donnell (30) described and illustrated the microscopic occurrences of minerals in many U.S. coals, especially kaolinite, pyrite, calcite, siderite, and quartz. O Gorman and Walker (2 ) quantitatively identified 14 different mineral phases in dull durain and clarain layers in 12 samples from mines in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Dakota, and Wyoming. [Pg.30]

One sample of Wyoming fly ash (WYO-FA) from the Northern Great Plains Coal Province was subjected to leaching. Mn, Pb, Zn and Cu were detected in very minor amounts (<0.15 mg/1). The initial leachate solution had an Fe concentration of 6.2 mg/1, with no Fe being detected in later samples. Of the elements analyzed, the major constituents in the leachate were Ca, Na and K. [Pg.351]

The ability of 18 different montmorillonites to catalyze the oligomerization of the 5 -phosphorimidazolide of adenosine (ImpA) was explored 28). Those montmorillonites found to generate oligomers 8 mers or longer were designated excellent catalysts . Five of these 18 montmorillonites are excellent catalysts and are in the Wyoming class of montmorillonites. They all have similar elemental analyses and were obtained from deposits in South Dakota and Wyoming. [Pg.303]

The effect of additives on the asphaltene from the Catalytic Incorporated (Cat. Inc.) coal liquid product was studied. Asphaltene is defined as the pentane insoluble but benzene soluble part of the coal liquid. The fractionation procedure has been described in detail elsewhere(l) and is shown schematically in Figure 1. Some work was also done with A240 petroleum pitch. Elemental analysis for the Wyoming sub-bituminous coal. Cat. Inc. coal liquid product, and Cat. Inc. asphaltene and A240 petroleum pitch are shown in Table I. Measured amounts of the additive compounds to be studied were added to the Cat. Inc. asphaltene and petroleum pitch. The samples were pyrolyzed and the pyrolysis residues examined by cross polarized light microscopy. Elemental analyses of the residues were done. [Pg.264]

Mckelveyite has been described by Milton et al. from the fresh water lake beds of the Green River formation in Wyoming, U.S.A. The occurrences are in a uranium district, but are not associated with other uranium minerals. It is a unique carbonate as it contains significant quantities of rare-earth elements and may be related to rhapdophane. It does occur with another rare-earth mineral burbankite. Donnay and Donnay showed that mckelveyite was intergrown with ewaldite, another carbonate with a trace of uranium included. Donnay and Preston reported a structure for ewaldite. [Pg.65]

To the best of knowledge, the first experimental seismic array with more than four elements and openly available data was established in February 1961 by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Agency (UKAEA) on the Sahsbury Plain (UK), followed in December 1961 by the Pole Mountain array (PMA, Wyoming, USA), in June 1962 by the Eskdalemuir array (EKA, Scotland, UK), and in December 1963 by the Yellowknife array (YKA, Canada). This array type... [Pg.3212]

A Wyoming Na+-Ca2+-montmorillonite (commercied designation, Volclay SPV 200) was obtained from the American Colloid Company. Impurity quartz was removed by fractionation using conventional sedimentation techniques. The <2 m fraction, which was essentially free from impurities as determined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis, was used as starting material in all preparations. The cation exchange capacity of the montmorillonite was determined to be 89 meq/lOOg an elemental analysis of the clay is given in Table 2. [Pg.302]
