Wraparound

A belt press commonly uses two belts of woven material. Fmit mash is deposited on, and spread out evenly between, the two belts which converge and press the mash between them. The belts wrap around a series of successively smaller cylinders or pass between rollers (less efficient) for the pressing action. Juice yield for the wraparound belt press is 72%, and increases to 92% with secondary water addition (15). 

Caution Due to the permissible tolerance on the outside diameter immediately behind the tubing upset, the user is cautioned that difficulties may occur when wraparound seal-type hangers are installed on tubing manufactured on the high side of the tolerance therefore, it is recommended that the user select the joint of tubing to be installed at the top of the string. 

In complex samples, when the range of elution times may not be known beforehand, there is the possibility of wraparound where components from the previous run are still eluting on the next second-dimension elution (Micyus et al., 2005). This situation is of concern and should be eliminated in the method development process for all but the most exploratory of work. This may require collecting fractions and injecting these fractions into the second-dimension column to determine the most retained compound retention time as part of the method development process. 

Wraparound in three dimensions is more complicated to program and very much more complicated to visualize. In one dimension, we accomplished wraparound by making neighbors of the two most extreme points in the map. In two dimensions, we needed to join outer edges of the map, but, in three dimensions, exterior faces at the extremes of the grid must be connected. The additional computational bookkeeping required to work in three dimensions may cancel out any extra flexibility that it provides in the evolution of a cubic or tetrahedral SOM. 

Wraparound is not limited to one-dimensional strings. In this chapter, we will not be dealing in detail with two-dimensional GA strings, which are strings that take the form of an array rather than a simple list of values. 

Two-dimensional (or indeed n-dimensional) GA strings can be handled in the usual way, with an n-dimensional chunk of the strings being swapped by the crossover operator rather than a linear segment. However, care must then be taken to ensure that wraparound is applied in all n dimensions, not just one. (See also Problem 2 at the end of this chapter.)...

Cataracts. Patients should wear UVA-absorb-ing wraparound sunglasses when exposed to ultraviolet light during the 24 hours after taking the drug. 

Tables 3.4 and 3.5 present the results for the neck and waist film badges when the indicated thicknesses of protective aprons are worn. Usually, the apron thickness is 0.5 mm lead equivalent, but auxiliary staff sometimes use thinner aprons or the back portion of a wraparound apron may be thinner, such as 0.3 mm lead equivalent.

Moisture-Based Adhesives. The thin film of moisture-diluted adhesive applied costs very little per 1000 labels, plus labor costs. Plain paper is most widely applied to glass, but can be applied to metal, particularly in the form of a complete wraparound label. Application can be by hand, semiautomatic, or fully automatic methods. Speeds of 1000 or more per min can be achieved.
