Wound healing Scar tissue

Wound healing Repairs tissue defects Promotes fibrous scar Tissue... [Pg.110]

Wounds show only superficial healing in scurvy, with littie or no formation of (collagen-rich) scar tissue, so that healing is delayed and wounds can readily be reopened. The scorbutic scar tissue has only about half the tensile strength of that normally formed. [Pg.373]

However, at this level of intake, the subjects in the Sheffield study had impaired wound healing, as assessed by the tensile strength of scar tissue. Optimum wound healing required a mean intake of 20 mg per day. Allowing for individual variation, this gives a reference intake of 30 mg per day, which was the British reference intake until 1991 and the World Health Organization reference intake until 2001. [Pg.377]

As mast cells are normally found in skin, this recruitment of mast cells may simply reflect the restoration of normal tissue homeostasis, although they may play an intermediate role. Mast cells are also found in keloids and hypertrophic scars (Smith etal., 1987), both of which are considered to be abnormal typ>es of wound healing, and it has been su ested that this provides further evidence of their involvement in fibrotic responses. [Pg.70]

Wound healing rate of the PDLLA/ Du et al. chitosan group was higher than in [134] the other groups. PDLLA/chitosan promoted wound healing of alkali-burned corneas in vivo and also decreased scar tissue formation... [Pg.69]
