For nearly a century, epinephrine (adrenaline) has been the cornerstone of the acute management of anaphylaxis [1-6], a sudden-onset multi-systemic allergic reaction that can cause death. The World Health Organization lists epinephrine as an essential medication for anaphylaxis [7], Where national guidelines are available for the acute management of anaphylaxis, they universally recommend injection of epinephrine as the initial medication of choice [8]. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) developed a graded list of precautions for clinicians to consider when initiating CHCs (Table 30-4). 

The "Treating 3 Million by 2005" plan, also known as "3 by 5," by the World Health Organization (WHO), has a target of providing antirefroviral fherapy to fhree million infected persons meeting established medical criteria in 60 coxmtries by the end of 2005. In December 2003 when fhe initiative was launched, only four coxmfries had established antiretroviral targets in accord with 3 by 5.

Since ICH was initiated in 1990, there have been observers associated with the process to act as a link with non-ICH countries and regions. The observers to the ICH are the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Free Trade Area (EFTA), and the Therapeutic Products Directorate of Canada.

In the poorer countries of the world, where infectious diseases remain the primary cause of death, expense, inadequate health-care infrastructure, and lack of refrigeration limit the utility of vaccines.
