Wire bonding winding

HTS materials, because of their ceramic nature, are quite brittle. This has introduced problems relative to the winding of superconducting magnets. One solution is to first wind the magnet with the powder-in-tube wire before the ceramic powder has been bonded and then heat treat the desired configuration to form the final product. From the initial drawing process to the final winding process, gold bonding wire is inspected by an in-line quality system. In addition, a random sampling inspection is carried out in a final inspection process. This includes visual inspection, measnr ent of wire diameter and assessment of mechanical properties.
