Wing tear

The corneal epithelium is 5 to 6 cell layers thick centrally and 8 to 10 cell layers thick at the periphery. It is composed of a basal germinative layer, intermediate wing cells, and a surfece squamous layer that possesses structures that are known as zonula occludens, or tight junctions. These junctions constitute a continuing border between epithelial cells formed by the fusion of the outer plasma membrane. Mucopolysaccharides bound to the outer plasma membrane stabilize the tears. The cornea... [Pg.20]

There s a poor animal with blood on its head and tears rimning down its face. Who did that to it Is it a bird or a horse It s lying in the dust and its wings are broken. Who broke its wings Who cut off its hands so that it can t shake the bars [...] Who shut that animal in a glass cage O god, there s no pity in this world. (L, p. 49)... [Pg.50]

It was found by Min and White [44 to 47] that rotors with a two-wing Banbury rotor induce a circulatory motion in the mixing chamber. These researchers [43] also observed the difference in behavior of various elastomers in an internal mixer. Natural rubber (NR) formed a tight band around internal mixer rotors. However, a narrow molecular weight distribution butyl lithium polymerized polybutadiene (BR) a similarly polymerized butadiene styrene copolymer and an emulsion polymerized butadiene styrene copolymer exhibited tearing to various extents depending upon temperature. [Pg.243]

For dissecting the discs free from the body wall, tear the larva in half and invert the body wall. For dissecting the cluster of dorsal discs (wing, haltere, and second leg disc), pinch the larvae about a third of the way posterior and rip the dorsal anterior side of the larvae a little further anterior. The dorsal cluster is located about a quarter of the way posterior in a dorsolateral position, and often pops out of the resultant tear it must then be teased loose from the trachea. The other leg discs are found on the ventral side of the ventral brain. The eye-antennal discs are stretched between the surface of the optic lobes of the brain and mouth parts. The discs appear slightly more transparent than the white-yellow fat body and can be easily identified with a little practice. [Pg.167]
