Henry Taube (b. 1915 in Canada) is Professor Emeritus of Chemistry of the Department of Chemistry, Stanford University. He received the 1983 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on the mechanisms of electron transfer reactions, especially in metal complexes. His other distinctions include the National Medal of Science (1977), the Robert A. Welch Award in Chemistry (1983), and the Priestley Medal of the American Chemical Society (1985). Case descriptions also made up the bulk of the application Pfizer filed with the FDA, and government officials even assisted in their production. Ernest King, a medical officer at the FDA, was listed as first author on a JAMA article describing clinical success with Terramycin less than two months after he evaluated the Pfizer application.28 He would later approve a number of additional Terramycin formulations. Likewise, Henry Welch, director of the FDA s antibiotics division, treated cases of chronic diarrhea in 1949 with "Combiotic, an otherwise unidentified Pfizer experimental drug. The report he sent to the company mirrored published case studies in its attention to clinical detail ...
