Weathering and water

For other recreational surfaces, such as mnning tracks, the installation techniques are quite different. Most are poured-in-place. An interlocking tile technique may be employed for tennis courts. In all cases, adequate provision for weathering and water drainage is essential. In general, the resiHent surfaces are installed over a hard base (see Fig. 4) that contains the necessary curbs to provide the finished level. Outdoors, asphalt is the most common base, and indoors, concrete. A poured-in-place polyurethane surface (14) is mixed on-site and cast from at least two components, an isocyanate and a filled... 

An example of a nationwide environment monitoring system is the system used for monitoring weather and water levels in Poland, operated by the state Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM, 2006), and covering the area of Poland, or 312,000 square kilometers. 

The durability of asphalt is an indication of the presence of the necessary chemical and physical properties required for the specified pavement performance. The property indicates the resistance of the asphalt to change during the in-service conditions that are prevalent during the life of the pavement. The durability is determined in terms of resistance to oxidation (resistance to weathering) and water resistance (ASTM D-529, ASTM D-1669, ASTM D-1670, ASTM E-42). 

Optical characteristics of plastics include color, clarity, general appearance, and more directly measurable properties, such as index of refraction [29]. For optical applications, however, other properties, including dimensional stability, scratch resistance, temperature limitation, weatherability, and water absorption, must be considered.

The main advantage of all types of phenolic resin adhesives for wood is their remarkable weather and water resistance. Their main use is then for the manufacture of exterior- and marine-grade wood products, structural or otherwise. 

Ignition of the oil slick, especially by aerial ignition methods (such as the helitorch), must be well coordinated with neighboring vessels and be carefully executed. Weather and water conditions should be kept in mind, and proper safety distances should be kept at all times.

Action of water on rock over long periods of time typically leads to weathering and water erosion, physical processes that convert solid rocks and minerals into soil and sediment, but under some conditions chemical reactions with water occur as well, resulting in metasomatism or mineral hydration, a type of chemical alteration of a rock which produces clay minerals in nature and also occurs when Portland cement hardens. 

Ageing of GRC composites in a wet environment leads to a change in properties, as seen from the stress-strain curves in Figure 8.19. The most significant change is the marked reduction in the ultimate strain in natural weathering and water storage, accompanied by an increase in the first crack stress and a reduction in the tensile... 

Common household glue (white glues). It resists grease, oil, and hydrocarbon solvents has poor resistance to weather and water. Copolymerization is done to improve this.
