Ideally, a plant of this size is started up in stages, so that replacement will be a continuous process. Membranes in all the 10 packs of a press are generally renewed at the same time. The Virus House was finished in October. Besides a laboratory the structure contained a special brick-lined pit, six feet deep, a variant of Fermi s water tank for neutron-multiplication studies. Pumps are required in the feed system either to transfer product within the feed systan or to supply product to the atomizer. Flow times of polymer solutions were measured using a Ubbelohde capillary viscometer. Relative viscosity (j]x) was obtained from the ratio of the flow times of a solution and the solvent.
