Water bath process

Ethyl a-naphthylacetate is prepared as follows. To a solution of 10 g. of the diazo ketone in 150 ml. of ethanol at 55-60°, add a small amount of aslurry of silver oxide, prepared from 10 ml. of 10 per cent, aqueous silver nitrate and stirred with 25 ml. of ethanol. As soon as the evolution of nitrogen subsides, introduce more of the silver oxide and continue the process until all the slurry has been added. Reflux the mixture for 15 minutes, add 2-3 g. of decolourising carbon, filter and evaporate the alcohol on a water bath. Distil the residue and collect the ethyl a-naph-thylacetate at 176-178°/ 1 mm. the yield is 9 g. [Pg.905]

In the second step, a papermaking method is also used for the fine fibers, less than 0.1 tex (1 den). This process is usually followed by a high pressure water jet process instead of the third step. In the fourth step, to obtain the required properties in specific appHcations, a polyurethane is selected out of the segmented polyurethanes, which comprises a polymer diol, a diisocyanate, and a chain extender (see Urethane polymers). A DMF—water bath for coagulation is also controlled to create the adequate pore stmcture in combination with fibers. [Pg.94]

To 40 g. of dry chitin in a 500-ml. beaker is added 200 ml. of concentrated hydrochloric acid (c.p., sp. gr. 1.18), and the mixture is heated on a boiling water bath for 2.5 hours with continuous mechanical agitation. At the end of this time solution is complete, and 200 ml. of water and 4 g. of Norite are added. The beaker is transferred to a hot plate, and the solution is maintained at a temperature of about 60° and is stirred continuously during the process of decolorization. After an hour the solution is filtered through a layer of a filter aid such as Filter-Cel. The filtrate is usually a pale straw color however, if an excessive color persists, the decolorization may be repeated until the solution becomes almost colorless. The filtrate is concentrated under diminished pressure at 50° until the volume of the solution is 10-15 ml. The white crystals of glucosamine hydrochloride are... [Pg.36]

In order to compensate for shrinkage, special techniques are required in the manufacture of rod. In one process, vertical aluminium tubes are filled with syrup and slowly lowered into a water bath at 40°C. As the lowest level of syrup polymerises, it contracts and the higher levels of syrup thus sink down the tube, often under pressure from a reservoir of syrup feeding into the tubes. [Pg.403]
