Voltage drops

From an electrochemical viewpoint, stable pit growtli is maintained as long as tire local environment witliin tire pit keeps tire pit under active conditions. Thus, tire effective potential at tire pit base must be less anodic tlian tire passivation potential (U ) of tire metal in tire pit electrolyte. This may require tire presence of voltage-drop (IR-drop) elements. In tliis respect the most important factor appears to be tire fonnation of a salt film at tire pit base. (The salt film fonns because tire solubility limit of e.g. FeCl2 is exceeded in tire vicinity of tire dissolving surface in tlie highly Cl -concentrated electrolyte.)... [Pg.2727]

Two modes of operation are available. In the simpler mode, a fixed current is appHed to the wire. In the other mode, the sensor temperature (hence is maintained at a fixed value above that of the gas by means of a feedback amplifier. In both cases, velocity is measured by the voltage drop. [Pg.110]

For positive voltages the current, /, can become exponentially large and is limited by junction heating and burnout. A forward-biased siUconp—n junction has the voltage drop shown in equation 14. For negative voltages, I s- For... [Pg.349]

Busbars. Fitting the tank for d-c power is usually accompHshed usiag round copper busbars, both for supporting the anodes and the work or cathodes. Size of the copper bus is determined by the amount of current flow expected 1000 amperes requires about 6.5 cm of cross-sectional area. The bus is iasulated from the tank, and any other sources of grounding, and coimected to the d-c power supply. Shorter distances from the tank as well as fewer electrical connections keeps the voltage drop to a minimum. [Pg.146]

In addition, it would also help to dampen the amplitude of the arriving surge. The u,se of inductor on the load side to provide an impedance to the arriving surges with a view to suppressing them is not good practice, for it may diminish the p.f. of the circuit and also catise a voltage drop across it, which may affect the machine s performance. [Pg.134]
