Viscosity of glycols

The viscosity of glycol dinitrate is 0.08056 poise at 15 °C and 0.02831 poise at 40 °C, about 10 times smaller than nitroglycerine. [Pg.213]

For temperatures lower than about -40 F, glycol injection is impractical because of the high viscosity of glycol solutions at such low temperatures. Methanol s low viscosity and other favorable characteristics make it the fluid of choice for hydrate inhibition in very low... [Pg.1000]

To produce a spandex fiber by reaction spinning, a 1000—3500 molecular weight polyester or polyether glycol reacts with a diisocyanate at a molar ratio of about 1 2. The viscosity of this isocyanate-terrninated prepolymer may be adjusted by adding small amounts of an inert solvent, and then extmded into a coagulating bath that contains a diamine so that filament and polymer formation occur simultaneously. Reactions are completed as the filaments are cured and solvent evaporated on a belt dryer. After appHcation of a finish, the fibers are wound on tubes or bobbins and rewound if necessary to reduce interfiber cohesion. [Pg.307]

The viscosity of algiaate solutioas is iadepeadeat of pH ia the range 5—10, but below pH 4.5, the viscosity iacreases uatil the pH reaches 3 whea iasoluble alginic acid precipitates. Propyleae glycol algiaate is soluble and stable at pH 2—3 but not above 6.5. [Pg.432]

Dicylopentadiene Resins. Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) can be used as a reactive component in polyester resins in two distinct reactions with maleic anhydride (7). The addition reaction of maleic anhydride in the presence of an equivalent of water produces a dicyclopentadiene acid maleate that can condense with ethylene or diethylene glycol to form low molecular weight, highly reactive resins. These resins, introduced commercially in 1980, have largely displaced OfXv o-phthahc resins in marine apphcations because of beneficial shrinkage properties that reduce surface profile. The inherent low viscosity of these polymers also allows for the use of high levels of fillers, such as alumina tfihydrate, to extend the resin-enhancing, fiame-retardant properties for apphcation in bathtub products (Table 4). [Pg.316]

The viscosity of PVC pastes may be reduced in many instances by the presence of certain polyethylene glycol derivatives and related materials. Because of their tendency to exude, the use of these viscosity depressants should be restricted to levels of less than 1% of the total mix. [Pg.342]

The side-by-side diffusion cell has also been calibrated for drug delivery mass transport studies using polymeric membranes [12], The mass transport coefficient, D/h, was evaluated with diffusion data for benzoic acid in aqueous solutions of polyethylene glycol 400 at 37°C. By varying the polyethylene glycol 400 content incrementally from 0 to 40%, the kinematic viscosity of the diffusion medium, saturation solubility for benzoic acid, and diffusivity of benzoic acid could be varied. The resulting mass transport coefficients, D/h, were correlated with the Sherwood number (Sh), Reynolds number (Re), and Schmidt number (Sc) according to the relationships... [Pg.109]

We expect the viscosity of ethylene glycol (HOCH2CH2OH) to be greater than that of ethanol (CH3CH2OH) because both molecules are about the same size, but ethylene glycol contains two sites where hydrogen bonding can occur whereas ethanol has only one. [Pg.213]
