View integration

From a practical point of view, integrating trajectories for times which are of the order of eP is very expensive. When the reduced barrier height is sufficiently large, then solution of the Fokker-Planck equation also becomes numerically very difficult. It is for this reason, that the reactive flux method, described below has become an invaluable computational tool. 

As part of the process guidance, systems were designed to support software design by context-based and decision-guided tools. The influence of domain knowledge onto actions like validation and view integration was also researched. 

Abstract Merging schemas or other structured data occur in many different data models and applications, including merging ontologies, view integration, data integration, and computer supported collaborative work. This paper describes some of the key works in merging schemas and discusses some of the commonalities and differences.

The definition of equivalent, while different in a few details, is very similar to the notion of information capacity in Sect. 2.1. One scenario that they tackle is that of view integration. The authors state that their goals are much more pragmatic than some of the existing work as previously discussed [Batini et al. 1986 Biskup and Convent 1986 Casanova and Vidal 1983], take a more theoretical approach. As such, Rosenthal and Reiner concentrate on a usable tool they only detect homonyms and synonyms, and such conflicts are presented to the user for resolution. They then perform a duplicate removing union between the two schemas. No mappings are created between the schemas. 

These works represent the type of focus on schema merging present in the more recent view integration literature. After this point, more of the database research in schema merging came from data integration (Sect. 4) and generic schema management (Sect. 6).

From a fundamental point of view, integration is less demanding than differentiation, as far as the conditions imposed on the class of functions. As a consequence, numerical integration is a lot easier to carry out than numerical differentiation. If we seek explicit functional forms (sometimes referred to as closed forms) for the two operations of calculus, the situation is reversed. You can find a closed form for the derivative of almost any function. But even some simple functional forms cannot be integrated expliciUy, at least not in terms of elementary functions. For example, there are no simple formulas for the indefinite integrals J e dx or J dx. These can, however, be used for definite new functions, namely, the error function and the exponential integral, respectively.

These specific techniques are now under investigation. Whatever capabiUties may be developed, however, from the user s point of view, integration wiU stiU be occurring at the workstation GUI. This is the subject of the next section.
