With suitable scan-line delay circuits, the filter may be applied in real time to live video images. In data communications, bandwidth extrapolation offers the opportunity to make far better use of channel capacity than is now possible. The bounded methods produce their most impressive restorations when o(x) spends a lot of time at or near the bounds. The present method was designed for use with both upper and lower bounds, which makes it ideal for the bilevel signals used in digital transmission. [Pg.111]

There is CT, for computerized tomography, a wedding of x-ray and the computer that scans a portion of, say, the brain by revolving an x-ray tube around the head, converting the pictures into a digital computer code to make high-resolution, three-dimensional video images accurate to. 9 millimeter. Differences in tissue density, between abnormal and normal tissue, are revealed fine details of bone structure appear clearly the location of tumors is pinpointed. [Pg.175]

A fundus camera was modified to provide video angiograms and to deliver one laser beam used to release the content of the liposomes and another laser beam to activate the photosensitizer. The first laser was also used to illuminate the fundus. The output of the charge-coupled device (CCD) camera was fed into a video image enhancer and recorded on magnetic tapes with a high-frequency video recorder. Later, the tape was played back, and video sequences were digitized with a frame grabber for subsequent analysis. [Pg.146]

The feasibility of employing fluorescent tracers and video imaging analysis to quantify dermal exposure to pesticide applicators has been demonstrated under realistic field conditions. Six workers loaded a tracer with the organophosphate pesticide, diazinon, into air blast sprayers, and conducted normal dormant spraying in pear orchards. They were examined prior to and immediately after the application. UV-A illumination produced fluorescence on the skin surface, and the pattern of exposure was digitized with a video imaging system. Quantifiable levels of tracer were detected beneath cotton coveralls on five workers. The distribution of exposure over the body surface varied widely due to differences in protective clothing use, work practices and environmental conditions. This assessment method produced exposure values at variance with those calculated by the traditional patch technique. [Pg.377]

The first voice transmission over cables (1876) and by radio waves (1896), the first radio transfer of video images (1936), the first electronic computer (1944), and the first transistor (1948) preceded this milestone of technical history, but the first microprocessor (1971) and the first IBM personed computer (1981), as well as the first digital radio transmission of voice (1988) and image (1991), came later. [Pg.235]
