Particles can be manipulated in suspension using strongly focused laser beams ( optical tweezers ) [25] or magnetic fields [26] and by collecting statistics on tire particle movements using video microscopy, infonnation on the particle interactions can be obtained. 

An industrial microscope with a long-working distance 20 X objective is used for the collection of the chromatic interference patterns. They are produced by the recombination of the light beams reflected at both the glass/chromium layer and lubricant/steel ball interfaces. The contact is illuminated through the objective using an episcopic microscope illuminator with a fiber optic light source. The second area of progressive development will be in the area of very specialized data collection mediums. We foresee a major extension in the area of direct data input using interactive video terminals built within the sensory evaluation booths. Although this will take a fairly extensive development in the area of software, the gains to be reaped by the development will far exceed the development costs itself. A large area of research has yet to be conducted concerning the application of microcomputers in sensory analysis as a data collection tool. Studies of inherent bias, effects on response freedom etc. will have to be undertaken in order to properly evaluate the computer as a data acquisition tool. Biases based on the way the software... 

A computer, digital camera mounted above the test apparatus and video-tracking software will aid researchers in the collection of accurate behavioral data.
