Victoria yellow

Colouring Matters.—In Italy butter may be coloured, but not with certain prohibited colouring matters, such as Martius yellow, Victoria yellow and metanil yellow. As a rule annatto is used, but sometimes also saffron or turmeric, and rarely carotin coal-tar colours (aniline yellow, butter yellow) are also employed. [Pg.39]

Extraneous Colouring Matters.—Most of the products in question are coloured a more or less deep yellow by means of organic colouring matters or, sometimes, saffron, the depth of colour depending on whether enhancement of the natural colour of the flour or imitation f the colour imparted by eggs is desired. In Italy the use of picric acid, Victoria yellow, Martius yellow and metanil yellow for this purpose is prohibited. [Pg.75]

When cresylic acid (or cresol, C 6 H 4 (CH 3 )OH.) is acted upon by nitric acid it produces a series of nitro compounds very similar to those formed by nitric acids on phenol, such as soditrm di-nitro-cresylate, known in the arts as victoria yellow. Naphthol, a phenol-like body obtained from naphthalene, under the same conditions, produces sodium di-nitro- naphthalic acid, C 10 H 6 (NO 2 ) 2 0. The explosive known as "roburite" contains chloro-nitro-naphthalene, and romit, a Swedish explosive, nitro-naphthalene. [Pg.72]

Two outbreaks of diarrhea in 1999 and 2001 were reported to be associated with butterfish consumption in Victoria, Australia. The victims complained of diarrhea or yellow oily diarrhea. The fish causing the outbreaks in 1999 was identified as either escolar or rudderfish, and the one in 2001 as escolar (Gregory, 2002)... [Pg.4]

Polyamines as Coupling Components. Chrysoidines are obtained by coupling dia-zonium salts of aniline, toluidines, or mixtures thereof to polyamine coupling components such as 1,3-phenylenediamine, 2,4- or 2,6- toluylenediamine, or mixtures of these diamines. These dyes confer muted yellow to orange shades to paper, leather, and polyacrylonitrile fibers. When they are mixed with malachite green and fuchsin, medium-fast black shades are obtained on polyacrylonitriles. A mixture of chrysoidine with Crystal Violet or Victoria Pure Blue is used to adjust the color of nigrosine hectograph inks [1]. [Pg.228]

ABSTRACT A number of fluorescent proteins have been discovered in marine organisms with the green-fluorescent protein (GFP) from Aequorea victoria representing the first member of this family being isolated and well characterized. These polypeptides show marked differences in their spectral properties. Today, blue-, yellow-, cyan- and red-light emitting proteins are known in addition to GFP. [Pg.3]

The alkylation process enters into dye manufacture in two ways, because dyes may be formed from alkylated intermediates, or in a lesser numt>er of instances, an intermediate may be subjected to alkylation as a final step. For instance, dimethylaniline is condensed with phosgene to give tetra-methyldiaminobenzophenone (Michler s ketone). From this ketone are formed many dyes, such as crystal violet and Victoria blue. On the other hand, the alkylation process may be almost the last step in the manufacture of a dye, for example, when the disazostilbene dye, paper yellow 3G, is ethylated to give crysophenine G. [Pg.806]

Triphenyl methane dyes have been used for a long time. Victoria Blue (XIII) represents one dye used in CtP applications in the past. Sensitization under room light (yellow safe light) conditions might become an issue using soluble dyes because the redox potentials of those colorants allow photoinduced electron transfer to radical initiators IV (AG < 0, equation [7.7]) resulting in the formation of initiating radicals. [Pg.233]
