Vegetation index

The Advanced-Very-High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) carried on board the NOAA-7 satellite has been collecting radiance data from the earth s surface since 1978. The polar-orbiting satellite records global data on a neardaily basis. The 4-kilometer data have been remapped by NO A A into monthly composites. The data are collected in 2 bands-one visible (VIS), the other near infrared (NIR). The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, or NDVI, defined... [Pg.404]

Source Field et al. (1998). After Field et al. (1998). All values in GtC. Ocean color data are averages from 1978 to 1983. The land vegetation index is from 1982 to 1990. Ocean NPP estimates are binned into three biogeographic categories on the basis of annual average Csat for each satellite pixel, such that oligotrophic = <0.1 mg m, mesotrophic = 0.1 < < 1 mg, and eutrophic = > 1 mg m (Antoine etal., 1996). [Pg.4061]

Recent slow rate of the atmospheric carbon dioxide is studied by analysis of the observed CO2, vegetation index, and temperatures. The following results were stressed. [Pg.236]

Gouaux and Vincent (1990) performed a comparative analysis of polluted versus unpolluted areas by means of infrared color photography, digitalization, and data processing. The change in the spectral response indicated by the visible and infrared bands and by a decrease of the vegetation index (IR/R) was attributed to the action of pollutants. In the same manner, Cox et al. (1991) found that lichens exposed to Cu concentrations >20 p-g g exhibited a significant shift of 2-3% of the spectral response. [Pg.297]
