Closed Valve (No Bleeding) Open Valve < Bleeding) ... [Pg.300]

Many vacuum pumps are supplied with a gas ballast valve which is designed to prevent the condensation of moisture and similar condensable materials. This valve bleeds a small amount of air into the pump and as a result the ultimate vacuum and pumping speed of the pump suffer. There is no occasion to use this feature on a pump on a typical chemical high-vacuum line, and it rarely, if ever, is used in typical laboratory rough-pumping systems. [Pg.235]

A bladder or diaphragm-type aeeumulator should be supplied to provide proper lube oil supply to the bearings during expander-eompressor eoast-down in the event lube oil pressure is lost. The aeeumulator must be fitted with a preload filling system and neeessary bleed and bloek valves. [Pg.278]

The gas turbine during the start-up is on an auxiliary drive, initially it is brought to a speed of about 1200-1500 RPM when ignition takes place and the turbine speed and temperature rise very rapidly. The bleed valves are open to prevent the compressor from surging. As the speed reaches about 2300-2500 rpm, the turbine is declutched from its start-up motor, the first set of bleed valves are closed, and then as the turbine has reached near full speed, the second set of bleed valves are closed. If the turbine is a two or three shaft turbine as is the case with aero-derivative turbines, the power turbine shaft will break loose at a speed of about 60% of the rated speed of the turbine. [Pg.641]

A vacuum condenser has vacuum equipment (such as steam jets) pulling the noncondensibles out of the cold end of the unit. A system handling flammable substances has a control valve between the condenser and Jets (an air bleed is used to control nonflammable systems). The control method involves derating part of the tube surface by blajiketing it with noncondensibles that exhibit poor... [Pg.291]

Ball valves are limited in temperature by the elastomer material used in their seats. Many designs have a secondary metal-to-metal seat to provide a seal in case of fire. Ball valves are not suitable as a throttling valve, but can be used on start-up and shut-down in the partially open position to bleed pressure into or out of a system. [Pg.427]

The valve was operated by compressed air, and the two air hoses, one to open the valve and one to close it, were connected up the wrong way around. The two connectors should have been different in size or design so that this could not occur. In addition, they were not disconnected, and a lockout device on the valve—a mechanical stop—had been removed. It is also bad practice to carry out work on equipment isolated from hot flammable gas under pressure by a single isolation valve. The take-off branch should have been slip-plated, and double block and bleed valves should have been provided so the slip-plate could be inserted safely (Figure 1-1), [16, 17]. [Pg.3]

The correct way to light a furnace (hot or cold) that bums gas or burns light oil is to start with a positive isolation, such as a slip-plate, in the fuel line. Other positive isolations are disconnected hoses, lutes filled with water (if the fuel is gas at low pressure), and double block and bleed valves closed valves without a bleed are not sufficient. Then ... [Pg.222]

A service that is used intermittently should be connected to process equipment by a hose, which is disconnected when not in use, or by double block and bleed valves. If a hose is used, it should be provided with a vent so that it can be depressured before it is disconnected. [Pg.330]

The system can be made more sophisticated through the addition of fused silica restrictors acting as bleeds, thus preventing back diffusion of analytes towards the solenoid valves. Additional pre-concentration stages can also be provided between the primary and secondary columns to reduce the peak widths introduced to the secondary column. [Pg.55]

The air bleed is u.sed to maintain a constant condition. However, a control valve may be used instead. Control or hand valves in the lower pressure vapor lines to an ejector are not recommended, as they must be paid for in system pressure drop and ejector udlity requirements. [Pg.363]

Bleed-Off Line. This line bleeds off pressure within the standpipe, rotary base, kelly and the drill pipe to the depth of the top float valve. The bleed-off line allows air (or gas) under pressure to be fed directly to the blooey line. [Pg.844]

When cementing operation is completed, bleed off internal pressure inside the casing and leave valve open on cementing head. [Pg.1207]

A simple manual valve running continuously to drain or by an automatic valve controlled by the conductivity of the circulating water may set the bleed-off. [Pg.475]

A condenser pressure regulator can be in the form of a pressure-operated bleed valve in a bypass across the condenser, to divert hot gas to the receiver. The valve diaphragm is balanced by a pre-set spring and will open the bypass if the condensing pressure falls. A similar effect can be obtained by a pressure-operated valve between the condenser and the receiver, to restrict the flow and allow liquid to accumulate in the condenser, reducing its efficiency. For operating... [Pg.112]

The bleeding of gas from the purge valve will release a mixture which can he estimated from the total pressure. [Pg.142]
