Valve modulation

The normal manning arrangement is to have one person in the control room and one in the field for both the oil section and the gas section the fifth man covers the outlying areas such as the flare control module and perimeter valve modules and provides relief to the other four.

Gorecki et al. [53] recently improved their version of the valve modulator by proposing to periodically interrupt the flow from the first column before sampling by the modulator ("stopped flow modulation"). This approach increases analysis time in the second dimension and thus reduces wraparound phenomena without reducing first-dimension resolution. Table 2 summarizes the different modulators used in GCxGC [32].

Figure 1.10 shows a switching valve module produced by Sciware Systems (Sciware Systems S.L., Palma de Mallorca, Spain) implementing a VICI Valeo valve, which allows the number of lateral ports to be programmed. This imphes that only the valve cover needs to be changed according to the selected number of lateral ports, e.g. 6, 8, or 10 positions. 

Once all channels have been selected and configured, the miniaturized Ocean Optics CCD spectrophotometer is linked to its communication channel, and so are the Crison valve module and burette to theirs, e.g. first the valve (position 0) and then the burette (position 1). After these elements being chained, they can be individually configured and operational characteristics such as the type of valve used (e.g. one selection valve and one injection valve), number of ports, syringe volumes, burette steps, can be selected. 

For variable air-demand systems, replace single-stage rotary screw compressors equipped with inlet-valve modulation control (or other control types [load/no-load, turn valve, etc.] not efficiently following load variations) with variable-frequency drive or reluctance-motor-drive air compressors.
