Value chain analysis

The team must also do a complete value chain analysis showing the suppliers, distributors, customers, end-users of the product, and where the organization will position itself in the industry. Furthermore, our position relative to competitive products must be established and analyzed. The team must also establish a basis of pricing their product, as well as the price itself.

As in (Huseby Haavardsson, 2009), we assume that the field has been analyzed using state-of-the-art reservoir simulation methods. Based on the output from these simulations simplified production profile models for each of the reservoirs can be constructed and used as input to the optimization procedure. How to construct such profile models is described in (Haavardsson Huseby, 2007). We also foUow the approach of (Huseby Haavardsson, 2009) and (Haavardsson et al., 2008) by focnssing on optimizing oil production, and leave simultaneous analysis of oil, gas and water production for future work. StiU the optimization methods developed here can be used in a broader context of a total value chain analysis.

Vanhaverbeke [21] argues that the open innovation business model should be based on integration of theoretical frameworks, like value chain analysis, transaction-costs theory, rational view of the firm, and the resource-based view (RBV). In addition, governance of iimovation networks, on internal, firm and external level, needs to be studied. Networks or supply chains that will eventually produce the product need to be designed also with appropriate governance (see also Sect. 2.4).
