V2 rocket

Both arguments were flawed, of course, and Allied Intelligence later showed that the 14 ton V2 rocket bomb was in fact powered with liquid propellant, was guided using gyroscopes, and did indeed carry one ton of explosive. And on the 3rd September 1944 the first V2 fell on London. Some firework ... 

Liquid explosives came into extensive use during World War I when nitro compounds and ammonium nitrate became scarce panclastites were most commonly used for military purposes and oxyliquits in the mining industry. During the World War II the Germans employed liquid mixtures for jet propulsion including a newcomer in this field—a mixture of concentrated (80-85%) hydrogen peroxide with hydrazine for the propulsion of V2 rockets. 

The Germans used hydrogen peroxide of 80-85% concentration, alone or in mixtures with combustibles, as a fuel for the big V2 rockets during World War II. The utilization of hydrogen peroxide for rocket propulsion and the explosive properties of hydrogen peroxide and its mixtures will be discussed in later sections (pp. 299, 307). 

During World War II the Germans experimented with liquid mixtures consisting of tetranitromethane and combustibles as a liquid fuel for the propulsion of the big V2 rockets. 

When V2 rockets were first used a mixture of liquid oxygen with 70% methyl alcohol was employed as a fuel. This mixture, however, is not capable of self-ignition, and it had to be ignited by means of a pyrotechnical mixture giving a hot flame. 

The Germans also carried out a series of tests charging their VI and V2 rockets with poison gas. Now then, with the V-weapons, German chemists had the means to deliver the terror that Hitler desired. Indeed, preparations were in hand to fill the VI with phosgene, and tentative...

The novel begins in England during the latter part of the Second World War as "a screaming [the noise of an incoming V2 rocket] comes across the sky" (p. 3). The V2, by the way, is the source of the metaphor portrayed in... 

The history of the reliability field goes back to the early 1930s when probability concepts were applied to problems associated with electric power generation [4,5]. During World War II, German scientists applied the basic reliability concepts for improving reliability of their VI and V2 rockets [6]. Today, the field of reliability has become a well-developed discipline and has branched out into many specialized areas, including power system reliability, software reliability, human reliability, and mechanical reliability. 

We should define the altitude at which space begins. Actually, in 1946, V2 rockets were taking photographs from an altitude of about 50 km.
