Utilization and modification

The operating organization shall submit to the regulatory body for review and assessment information on experiments and modifications that may affect reactor safety. The specific submission requirements will depend on the safety significance of the experiments and modifications. These requirements are described in Safety Series No. 35-S2. Specific guidance on the development of appropriate procedures for the control of experiments and modifications is provided in Safety Series No. 35-G2. [Pg.12]

At some point in the decommissioning process (e.g. after removal of all fuel from the site) the SAR ceases to be a major working document. When required by the regulatory body, a decommissioning report shall be prepared. [Pg.13]

Safety Series No. 35-G2 Safety in the Utilization and Modification of Research (1994). [Pg.348]

Fumiture should be designed tobe sturdy and designed for convenient utilization and modification. Storage spaces should be easily accessible. [Pg.102]

Casework should be designed to be sturdy and designed for convenient utilization and modification. Storage spaces should be designed to meet any special requirements and should be easily accessible. It should not be necessary, for example, to stretch to reach any reagent which, if dropped, could represent a safety problem. [Pg.107]

If a decision is made to correct the situation, a proposal has to be prepared and submitted to the proper authorities for approval. In many cases, this action will not be a simple one and may be a major maintenance task or modification. Guidance on modifications of research reactors is given in the IAEA Safety Series No. 35-G2, Safety in the Utilization and Modification of Research Reactors [5]. [Pg.27]

This Safety Requirements publication covers aU the important stages in the hfetime of research reactor facihties, from site evaluation to design and construction, commissioning, operation, including utilization and modification , and decommissioning. It consists of eight sections, an appendix and two annexes. [Pg.5]

Section 7 establishes requirements for safe operation of research reactors, including commissioning, maintenance, utilization and modification. The... [Pg.5]

Although the utilization and modification of research reactors are activities that are normally included under operation, they may be considered separate stages in the Ucensing process since their safety impUcations give rise to a large nnmber of review and assessment activities that are repeated many times over the reactor s lifetime (see paras 7.87-7.94). [Pg.20]

Research reactors are flexible in nature and they may be in various different states. Special precautions shall be taken in the design in relation to the utilization and modification of the research reactor to ensure that the configuration of the reactor is known at all times. In particular, special consideration shall be given to experimental equipment since ... [Pg.52]

Proposals for the utilization and modification of the research reactor shall be categorized and relevant criteria for this categorization shall be established. [Pg.88]

Proposals for utilization and modification shall be categorized (see paras 305-326 of Ref. [15]) either according to the safety significance of the proposal or on the basis of a statement of whether or not the proposed change will put the operation of the reactor outside the OLCs. [Pg.89]

Utilization and modification projects having a major safety significance (see para. 310 of Ref. [15]) shall be subject to safety analyses and to procedures for design, construction and commissioning that are equivalent to those described in paras 6.72 and 6.78 for the reactor itself. [Pg.89]

In implementing utilization and modification projects for research reactors, the radiation exposure of the workers involved shall be kept as low as reasonably achievable. [Pg.89]

A. 1101. This chapter shall provide information demonstrating that reasonable provisions have been made that the experimental facilities and experiments do not pose a significant risk to the facility, the staff and the general public. Additional guidance may be found in Safety Series No. 35-Sl and S2, and in the Safety Guide on Safety in the Utilization and Modification of Research Reactors, Safety Series No. 35-G2. [Pg.46]
