Utility market, introduction

There is little statistical data regarding the total production of zeolites. Since their market introduction in the 1950 s the capacity and consumption of zeolites has steadily increased. This increase has accelerated in recent years due to their utilization in detergents (see Table 5.1-1). 

An attempt hais therefore been made to compile information on the first market introductions of NCEs for humam therapeutic use in the world ais a whole during 1983. It is hoped that this information will be useful to the reader ais an accurate reflection of paist accomplishments amd perhaps future directions. A short summaury of the profile, advamtages/uniqueness, amd utility of each compound is given severed leading references are offered for the reader interested in additionad information.

A 1.3 MW demonstration plant for utility applications was constructed by Ansaldo Ricerche, in cooperation with ENEA and AEM (the Municipal Energy Authority of Milan), and tested in Milan. Project activities were stopped in 1997 due to significant difficulties in reducing cost to the level needed for introduction into the market (1,000-1,500 /kW). 

Regardless of the wealth of research that has been performed on liquid sensors recently, so far only a few liquid sensors have made progress towards actual utilization in automotive applications. The oil condition sensor described above represents the cutting edge in automotive liquid sensing and its introduction into the market is expected for 2004.
