Unused energy

The leaving velocity Co is a measure of the unused energy. For best efficiency Co should have no radial component Co should be straight axial. For all stages except the last one, Co represents a carryover to the next stage. For the last stage, Co is the velocity into the exhaust hood and is referred to as the leaving loss or exhaust loss.

The situation changes sharply the moment the receptor module within the molecular system captures the chosen analyte (which is a cation for the purposes of illustration). Again, if we consider excitation of the lumophore module, we find the analyte influences the transferring electron. At the simplest level, this is due to electrostatic charge attraction between the jumping electron and the captured analyte. When a solid body is stressed, which requires the addition of energy from the outside, the tensions that are produced within stretch all bonds between the molecules. Theoretically, if the solid features an ideal structure with no imperfections and only tensile forces are applied, the bonds separate in a structural plane in which the load exceeds the bond strength and the solid splits cleanly into two parts. Then all other areas return to their equilibrium structure, and the unused energy is freed and converted into other forms kinetic and thermal energy and/or sound.

Within these four generic types of boilers, specific types of boilers emerge, with their classification based on their use. An example would be a heat-recovery boiler (Fig. 6.1) which recovers normally unused energy and converts it into usable heat. Likewise, a fluidized-bed boiler is one which utUizes a fluidized-bed combustion process. In this type of process, fuel is burned in a bed of granulated particles which are maintained in a mobile suspension by an upward flow of air and combustion products. This technology, in use for over 40 years, is currently being adapted as a combustion process to be installed within a boiler.
