Vapour-phase catalytic oxidation of isobutene was carried out at atmospheric pressure in a completely automated laboratory setup, including a fixed bed reactor (700 mm length, 10 mm inner diameter) with corundum as wall material. In order to ensure isothermicity, the heated section (200 mm in length) was divided into five independently heated zones and the catalyst bed was diluted with inert pellets (a-Al203). Inert pellets were placed above and below the catalyst bed to ensure a well-mixed feed stream, and to preheat the gas to the reaction temperature. Bi203 catalyst (Merck) was pressed into thin wafers and broken into small particles. Granules with a diameter of 0.8 -1.2 mm were used. [Pg.594]

These technologies were already covered in some detail in Section 10.1. All are used to modify the surface characteristics of pieces, particles, granules, or agglomerates of any kind and shape. [Pg.514]

The fat content of egg yolk is approximately 31.8 to 35.5% that is, about a third of the whole egg yolk. Lipids occur in different particles (granules, LDL-micelles) and are almost completely associated with proteins. An overview is provided by Temes (2001). About 70% of the dry mass consists of lipids. Differences in the Upid composition are not only genetically determined, but also occur due to the animals age and diet. The contents of long-chain (C20 and C22) polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) of n-6 and n-3 were 20 to 25% higher in the lipids of egg yolk from younger hens (Nielsen, 1998) (Table 14.1). [Pg.285]

Conventional operation of a fluidized bed for food or particulate application mainly deals with the dehydration of water. Drying of pharmaceutics very often involves the dehydration of volatiles and organic solvents. This is partly due to the insolubility of most drug materials. Therefore, additional safety features have to be put in place in the operation of a fluidized bed for drug particle granulation applications. Such potential hazard is further enhanced by a dusty environment within a fluidized bed. [Pg.993]

This technology refers to the physical mixing (blending) of dry fertilizer materials without the deliberate introduction of chemical reactions or the enlargement of the material particle granule) size. The blending of solid and liquid fertilizer materials is also practiced in some instances to produce fluid multinutrient products. However, the production and marketing of fluid fertilizers are beyond the scope of this examination (refer to Chapter 10). [Pg.446]

Because of the importance that particle (granule) size plays in the preparation of high quality, homogeneous blends needed for balanced plant nutrition, many material suppliers provide the customer with very specific particle size data to help the blender closely match the various materials used to prepare a blended NPK product. The Size Guide Number (SGN) is one such type of particle size information wdely used in the industry. The SGN, developed in Canada, refers to the particle size of a material expressed in millimeters multiplied by 100, which divides a sample of material into two equal halves on a weight basis [6]. For example, if the mid-point or average particle size (weight basis) of a sample of material is 2.50 mm, the SGN would be expressed as 250. In this example, the blender would try to select all other... [Pg.446]

Causes of Caking - Caking of fertilizer is caused by the formation of contact points between the particles (granules, prills, tablets, briquettes, pow der, crystals, etc.). These contact points differ in nature and basically have three mechanisms, namely, phase contacts, adhesive contacts, and surface diffusion [71]. [Pg.487]

Coating or encapsulation of particles, granules, or particulates can be carried out by a number of unit operations. Some of the operations used for mixing or dry powders can be equally applied for coating. Equipment that can be used for the purpose of mixing powders/coating particulates includes... [Pg.272]

The world s most popular method of PVC polymerization is the suspension method. Around 80% of PVC is produced this way. The difference in this method is that it uses initiators soluble in the monomer. They are dialkyl and diacyl peroxides, ketone peroxides, peroxo-dicarbonates, peroxo-ketals, alkyl peresters or azo compoimds. Seldom is the role of emulsifiers played by alkalies or buffers in order to improve the plasticizer adsorption in PVC. In this process, in order to obtain proper porosity and particle granulation, so-called suspension stabilizers are used, which are derivatives of meth-ylhydroxypropyl cellulose, karboxymethyl cellulose and poly(vinyl alcohols). PVC obtained this way is of high purity. Its molecular mass depends on the temperature of polymerization. Other parameters depend on the interfacial tension at the water-monomer interface. [Pg.198]

The mechanical properties of all blends presented below have been measured on samples with RPVC particles granulated through a 3 mm screen. Modulus, tensile stress, elongation at break and impact strength of VPPVC/RBPVC and VPPVC/RPPVC blends are shown in Figs.l2 - 15 as a function of the content of recycled PVC [4]. All the reported properties of the blends are between those of the two components and show an almost additive behavior. [Pg.382]
