Unsaturated region

This form of Darcy s law is appHcable only to saturated flow. As discussed earlier, there are distinctions between the state of soil water in the saturated and unsaturated regions. These distinctions lead to an alternative form of Darcy s law for the case of unsaturated flow (2,5). [Pg.402]

Neither nucleation nor crystal growth occurs in the unsaturated region. [Pg.40]

The 7d-Vd curves in Fig. C.8 are divided into the saturated and unsaturated regions. The threshold voltage is typically evaluated from the linear form of (C.30). [Pg.363]

In the unsaturated region, it can be seem from Equation 1.30 that Iq varies linearly with the humidity Y and the temperature Tq. If zero temperature (0°C) is taken as the datum for zero enthalpy, then... [Pg.10]

Several models for the structure of polyene—sterol pores in lipid bilayers have been presented [154,249-252]. They generally involve hydrophobic interaction between cholesterol and the unsaturated region of the polyene antibiotic, with possible hydrogen bond formation between the hydroxyl group of the sterol and the carbonyl group of the polyene ring. [Pg.131]

The probe beam is split by the plane-parallel plate Pll into two beams. One beam passes through that region of the absorbing sample that is saturated by the pump beam the other passes through an unsaturated region of the same sample cell. The two beams are recombined by a second plane-parallel plate P12. The two carefully aligned parallel plates form a Jamin interferometer [273], which can be adjusted by a piezoelement in such a way that without the saturating pump beam the two probe waves with intensities I and h interfere destructively. [Pg.138]

When forward-flow regeneration is employed it is essential that the adsorption cycle should not be terminated prematurely otherwise desorption will be very inefficient since the sorbate must first be pushed through the unsaturated region of the bed before it can be removed from the outlet. The volume of purge required to desorb the partially saturated bed is therefore essentially the same as for a fully saturated bed. By contrast, with reverse-flow regeneration premature termination of the adsorption cycle means only that the full capacity of the adsorbent is not utilized and the purge requirement/mole desorbed is not increased by operating with an incompletely saturated bed. [Pg.344]

To enhance the sensitivity, the probe beam can again be split into two parts. One beam passes the region of the sample that is saturated by the pump beam, and the other passes the sample cell at an unsaturated region (Fig. 7.10). The difference between the two probe-beam outputs monitored with the detectors D1 and D2 yields the saturation signal if this difference has been set to zero with the pump beam off. The pump-beam intensity measured by D3 can be used for normalization of the saturation signal. Figure 7.11 shows as an example the saturation spectrum of a mixture of different cesium isotopes... [Pg.455]

Equation (8) describes the state when the MOSFET is shut, Eq. (9) the saturated state (Id independent of the drain-source voltage difference, Uds), and Eq. (10) the unsaturated region of the characteristic. The constant Kj depends on the electron mobility in the channel, its geometry and the capacitance of the gate insulator. [Pg.374]

It is stated that the pressure p which is of interest lies between pi and P2 Thus p >p>Pi and the pressure p is greater than the vapour pressure of component 1. This vapour will therefore be supersaturated and the compressibility factor for this component must be estimated indirectly, for example by extrapolation from the unsaturated region. (N.B. The compressibility factor referred to in the question is that defined in equation (3 61) Z=pv/JRT.)... [Pg.479]

Blue regions in images (b) and (d) indicate unsaturated regions of images (a) and (b) for better clarification. The schematic on the right depicts inclined liquid jet impact conditions. U indicates impact velocity of the impinging jet t thickness of the liquid film and d indicates the thickness of the jet. Figure 9.6 shows the unsaturation region of the spectra. The top two traces show this region for branched polyethylene before and after 6 Mrad irradiation. The lower traces are those of linear polyethylene before and after similar irradiation. In branched polyethylene before irradiation, most of the unsaturation is of the external vinylidene type. After a dose of 6 MR, r ns-unsaturation at 964 cm (10.73 pm) increases and the vinylidene (at 888 cm" 11.26 pm) decreases. [Pg.327]
