This livable mountain town on the northern border of West Virginia and Pennsylvania houses the University of West Virginia. Downtown on the riverfront, Maxwell s (1 Wall St., a 304-292-0982) serves an array of vegetarian specialties, including veggie sandwiches, non-meat burgers and stir-fry. 

Ashburn who carried out a study at University of West Virginia concluded that, "the passing or failing of about 40% depends not on what they know or do not know, but on who reads the papers and that the passing or failing of about 10% depends on when the papers are read". 

Many improved properties were claimed for this material, including dimensional stability, greater abrasion resistance, resistance to deformation, toughness, etc. Beyond the initial Russian paper, however, further development does not appear to have taken place in the U.S.S.R. However, a very considerable amount of work has been carried out over the past three or four years by Kent at the Engineering Experiment Station of the University of West Virginia, under the auspices of the U.S.A.E.C. The results obtained from this investigation have substantiated many of the Russian claims, and a very extensive survey has been carried out into the possibilities of the use of polymer-loaded wood 14).

Concurrrent Engineering Research Center (CERC), located at the University of West Virginia, publishes a newsletter, bibliographies, and other information. 

Professor Bailar served his country during the Second World War as an official investigator of the National Defense Research Advisory Committee, Basic Physical Science, Panel on Chemistry, Research and Development Board. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Monmouth College. Professor Bailar has delivered hundreds of lectures in the United States and abroad on chemistry and chemical education, and has been awarded the Welch Lectureship, the Foster Lectureship at the University of Buffalo (twice), the Merck Lectureship at Bucknell University, the Clark E. Friend Lectureship at the University of West Virginia, and the American Cyanamid Lectureship at the University of Connecticut. He has been an author, editor, or co-author of four books and 145 scientific papers as well as many book reviews, lectures, etc.
