Figure 1 shows the dyes studied. All these dyes are readily available, except for the hisacridine deriviative (obtained from Or. D. P. Kelly, University of Melbourne) and the bis-(methidium)-spermine. Several of these have been used for the quantification of nucleic acids in solution (4-7). [Pg.46]

Physical Chemist who specializes in Sonochemistry, teaches undergraduate and postgraduate Chemistry and is a senior academic staff member of the School of Chemistry, University of Melbourne. Ashok is a renowned sono-chemist who has developed a number of novel techniques to characterize acoustic cavitation bubbles and has made major contributions of applied sonochemistry to the Food and Dairy industry. His research team has developed a novel ultrasonic processing technology for improving the functional properties of dairy ingredients. Recent research also involves the ultrasonic synthesis of functional... [Pg.414]

The idea of writing a book on inorganic sonochemistry originated way back in 2000 but turned to reality only recently when discussed with Dr. Sonia Ojo from Springer UK. She thankfully introduced me to Prof. Muthupandian Ashokkumar, University of Melbourne, Australia, a very well known name in the area of sonochemistry and sonoluminescence, to accomplish the task. Furthermore, I would also like to acknowledge Mrs. Claudia Culierat from Springer UK for her instantaneous and supportive attention to all my queries related to editorial assistance. [Pg.416]

His important contributions to biochemistry were soon recognized. In 1949, the University of Melbourne conferred on Alfred Gottschalk the Degree of Doctor of Science this was followed in two years by election to Fellowship in the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. In 1951, Gottschalk was awarded the David Syme Research Prize by the University of Melbourne, and, in 1954, he was honored by being elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. [Pg.4]
