United Nations entry into force

This Convention shall be open for signature by all States and Namibia, represented by the United Nations Council for Namibia, at the Headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna and at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York, from 26 September 1986 and 6 October 1986 respectively, until its entry into force or for twelve months, whichever period is longer. 

Under Article XIV (Entry into force), the Treaty will enter into force 180 days after the 44 States listed in annex 2 to the Treaty have deposited their instruments of ratification with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, but in no case earlier than two years after its opening for signature . This list comprises the States that formally participated in the 1996 session of the conference on Disarmament, and that appear in Table 1 of the December 1995 edition of Nuclear Research Reactors in the World and Table 1 of the April 1996 edition of Nuclear Power Reactors in the World , both compiled by the International Atomic Energy Agency. 

If the Treaty has not entered into force three years after the date of the anniversary of its opening for signature , the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as Depositary of the Treaty, could, at the request of a majority of States that had ratified it, convene a conference to examine the situation and to decide by consensus what measures consistent with international law may be undertaken to accelerate the ratification process in order to facilitate the Treaty s early entry into force.

After more than 50 ratifications. United Nations officials welcomed the entry into force of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) on December 24, 2014, hailing it as a new chapter in collective efforts to bring responsibility, accountabUity and transparency to the global arms trade. From now on, the States Parties to this important treaty will have a legal obligation to apply the highest common standards to their international transfers of weapons and ammunition, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said. ° ... 

The United States has signed two agreements that will allow for further chemical weapons inspections within the U.S. The Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) was signed in January 1993 and awaits ratification by 65 nations before implementation. The United States h not yet ratified that treaty. The Bilateral Destruction Agreement (BDA) was supposed to go into effect between the United States and the Russian Republic (The Soviet Union was in existence when the BDA was signed). That agreement has not been implemented and may not be implemented rmtil the CWC reaches entry into force. 

This Agreement shall enter into force on the date on which the United Nations and the OPC W have exchanged written notifications that their internal requirements for entry into force have been met. 

Requests the Director-General to send written notification to the United Nations that the internal requirements of the OPCW for entry into force of the Agreement have been met and... 

Further requests the Director-General to inform the Member States of the outcome of the United Nations General Assembly s consideration of the Agreement and the date of entry into force of the Agreement. 

Article 34 of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, Adopted on 28 July 1951 by the United Nations Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Status of Refugees and Stateless Persons convened under General Assembly Resolution 429 (V) of 14 December 1950 entry into force 22 April 1954, in accordance with Article 43.
